Air Con Problem

Just outside the warranty period for my 2l Diesel, the air con panel flashed: the dealer topped up the system but the problem has reappeared. Now I'm told that the compressor has failed and i must pay Mega-bucks for a replacement. I suspect, that just topping up the system has led to the complete failure. I've heard that this is not an isolated failure. Can anyone help with info.

I have a 1999 Galaxy 2.3 Zetec with the standard air-con. Last year that packed up (stopped blowing coolair). Took it to a dealer who charged

nope - my air con guy said this is a common fault, i have a 2001 2.8v6 new shape galaxy and i thought it needed recharging of the gases, after he checked it he told me the compressors gone and as i've missed a service last year ford won't help so i'm gonna have to source one elsewhere and get it fitted......

It seems to me an easy thing to say "your compressors gone", not that I'm trying to cast aspertions on the garages involved :angry: .....

It seems to be such a regular thing that surely there must be a design fault somewhere (?).

My 2001 tdi has been back 16 times with A/C Faults, Just when every thing has been changed and it now seems to be working properly. the two front carpets and just behind the handbrake where the air vent is are getting wet when the A/C is working. Its going back into the dealer yet again next week :huh:

Have you contacted Ford about this? ISTR that a few years ago, they promised to change a car if the same fault occurred 3 times. 16 repairs to an aircon system is unacceptable to me; press for a swap for a new Galaxy!
