Hi all

Im new to this site and what a great site it is!!!!

Im having a few issues with the electric windows.

I have a 2000 (x - reg) 2.3 Galaxy Ghia. The problem started a couple of weeks ago when for no apparent reason both passenger side windows packed up. Both had been working fine up until this point. I was able to do the windows up but they will not power back down. Having trawled at length through this site and read the many forums i was convinced that it would be the wiring between the door and pillar. I set to work checking the passenger side front door and found no breaks in the wire (checked resistance and continuity). I then checked the rear passenger door and again no breaks. I then checked the drivers side front and as before no breaks. Upon checking the drivers side rear door i found 3 broken wires. I fixed these wires hoping that would have solved my problem, alas, no it did not. In fact it made the situation worse. The rear drivers side window was functioning fine until i repaired the wires, now this window will not power down and for some reason pressing the down button now makes it go up??? (works fine from the drivers control)

I have tried the global opening/closing and the passenger side windows do not work, drivers side are fine.

I do not have the swimming pool under the passenger seat!! lol.

Can anybody point me in the right direction? I know that all the wiring between the doors is okay.

Is there a relay or control module anywhere that i can check?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks

Wow, certainly a strange one! Is there anyway you could have mixed up the wiring when you did the rear drivers door? I only ask because that (if I'm reading it correctly) would make all 3 have the same issue?

The wirings rather complex for the windows but the only thing I can see that could effect the windows in just one way is F37 (5Amp) which feeds pin 8 on the multifunction modules in each door. It runs through that doors lock status switch and if the door is in the unlock position 12V flows to pin 8 and allows the window to open. If its missing then the switch is disabled for down but not up (presumably an anti-theft feature to stop the window being broken and then the window being used?)

I would measure the voltages for the passenger module on these pins:

Pin 8 (Green) - 12V feed from the lock switch

Pin 11 (Brown/Blue) - Should be floating at rest, 12V when the DRIVERS switch is telling that window to close and a lower voltage (unspecified doh!) when its telling it to open. Its basically a signal wire, direct 12V to close, and via a resitor to open.

Pin 15 (Red/Yellow) - A voltage should be present here from fuse F75 (30Amp) and also feeds the switch on Pin1

Pin 3 (White/Red) - this is the return from the switch. Should be floating at rest, ground when the switch is telling it to open and 12V when its being told to close

Pin 7 (Black/Yellow) - a direct feed from F2 (10Amp)

Pin 1 (Brown) - Ground

5,8,14 and 2 are all signaling wires from the CJB to do with global opening / closing.

Once you've checked these then at least you've confirmed the basic operation :)

Hi Mirez

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I agree that the 'new' function of the rear window having repaired the 3 broken wires is a little odd. I definately connected them up right, but i'll have a better look this evening (weather permitting!)

I can find no F37 or F75? the fuses seem to go from 1 - 34 along the bottom row in the fuse box and something like 51 - 60 down the left hand side. I have physically checked all fuses in the main box and they are all okay.

I know about the fuses under the bonnet, are there any fuses elsewhere?

I will check what power 'or lack of' that i have at the pins and keep you updated.

Thanks again.

I can find no F37 or F75?

And you won't either because I was really thick and gave you the ford location numbers and not the number as its shown in the car - sorry!

PM your email address and I'll send you the wiring diagrams, its probably easier! Can you confirm your build date as well as Q3 of 2000 was the cross-over!

Hi all,

Sorry about the delay, been a bit busy with work commitments.

Im now getting some weird things happening.

I lost the dash panel lights whilst driving the other night, my brake lights failed for a couple of hours and the engine mangement light started flashing.

On the plus side my electric windows did start to function again........but not for long!!

In the the absence of a wiring diagram, im gonna concentrate my efforts in and around the fuse box

I'll keep you posted

jason, sounds like you have to change the brake switch,do a search common problem.
