Hi,

I am considering buying a Tow-A-Van to carry aroung my model aircraft. I used to use a Transit van but thats now up for sale and some of my bigger models will not fit inside the Galaxy. The Van I am considering weighs 1000Kg and the journeys will be about 10 times per year, 180 miles average. I am an 'easy' driver i.e. I don't nail the pedal to the floor and I only use brakes if I have to (plays havoc with the MPG readings). So what I really want to know is do I have to fit an oil cooler, if so does anyone have any idea how much they cost for a Gal, does a Towbar cause any problems with the reversing sensors when not towing and apart from a big bang and no drive does the transmission give any warning of high temperatures ?

Kind Regards - JB

Hi there and Happy Easter. For what you are proposing to do, I doubt that an oil cooler will be necessary for either engine or transmission. Reversing sensors can be dealer-programmed to take account of a towbar although you may not need to adjust them depending on the design of the bar and bracketry itself - there are a few other topics with postings that cover this subject on the forum.

I did have a look at the other postings but couldn't see anyone who had fitted an oil cooler or that sufferred failure through not fitting one.

My feeling is the same as yours don't bother and take it easy, I don't go fast at the best of times and even less so when carrying my models around.

Thanks for your reply, hope the easter bunny is being generous with you.

Although mine is not auto I feel that the hieght of the galaxy gives it a big advantage for wind resistance. I have always towed with a 90 bhp but am waiting to tow this summer with the 130. The engine will be fine but I can't comment on the gear box. Just to say that towing is a pleasure with the big old girl!

Also mine is an oil burner not a petrol. So i supose thats no help at all!

And eat your heart out you tdi owners. The A2 my wife has just bought is doing 70 to the gallon and is only

Thanks Tigger,

Mines an oil burner too 115 TDi, I'm going to give it a go without a cooler and see what happens, if the worst comes to the worst I still have 30 months warranty !

I also have another frugal vehicle MCC Smart Car Cabrolet, 65ish to the gallon on petrol, very, very quick (suprising) and only
