wackojackouk Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Hi guys Went out to the car today and using the remote undid the car but drivers door was locked. Didn't check the others but pressed lock and then unlock again and she was open so thought Sh*t perhaps I didn't lock her last night. Came back and locked her remotely but noticed the drivers door didn't lock :46: So unlocked her and then the drivers door locked (as if it was in reverse but the other doors were now open). Finally got all doors unlocked by locking and unlocking again. Went through handbook and everything but couldn't see a way to reset the system. Have been outside for about 20 minutes playing with the remote and the door locking switch and its hit and miss. Most of the time if I lock the car the drivers door is NOT locking and then the alarm goes off. I sat inside the car and played with it and now and again the drivers door will lock but other times it wont. The alert on the dash is correct in it tells me which doors are open or shut (with key in ignition). I then noticed that the interior lights weren't working correctly either. I did notice the switch was on the little icon with the door rather than the middle one so pushed it to that instead. Opened the doors and no interior lights EXCEPT the ones in the boot. Can someone please suggest what I can do to fix this. It's driving me mad and the Galaxy just feels like one problem after another. I've already had the car go back and have a new auxiliary heater fitted, the air conditioning redone (TWICE), a new drivers mirror - the car came from a dealer in Worcester so it's over 100 miles away and I don't really want to take it back there and I guess there limited warranty doesn't cover this. Please advise me Sad and Frustrated Galaxy OwnerWJUK Quote
wackojackouk Posted January 18, 2010 Author Report Posted January 18, 2010 Hi guys Just went back out to the car after calming down a bit and although still having problems have noticed a couple more things.... Interior Lights are working as I had them on the wrong setting - they should be on the little door open icon and now work when the doors are open. Checked the passenger footwell and no obvious signs of dampness or a lot of water. Was playing too and fro as before and got everything locked except the petrol cap. When unlocked the Petrol cap is locked !!!! In the end I put the key in the drivers lock and turned it to enable the central locking but nothing happened - the red didnt flash and nothing locked (except the drivers door). Unlocked it and tried it in the passenger side and everything locked fine. Unlocked it again in passenger door and everything unlocked so was feeling a bit better then :46: Locked everything again just to double check via the passenger door and again everything locked but this time the petrol cap stayed unlocked. Did the same again (unlock / lock) and everything locked fine. Unlocked again and this time the drivers door did not open but the petrol cap was locked. Eventually undid the drivers door manually and thought sod it I'll try and lock everything by the drivers door and the red light flashed and it worked. So the car is now locked anyway but there is a major problem with the locking. Is it the wiring in the door or could it be a dodgy central locking motor. I really don't have the patience (or ability) to investigate myself and just feel so frustrated. I've never had so many issues on one car it's unbelievable and I've only owned it nearly 3 months. Would really appreciate some advice - would it be best to take to a mechanice or an auto electrician etc Many thanks WJUK Quote
Mirez Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 What model year spec etc? (Put it in your signature then its done for all future posts! (My Controls > Signature) Sounds very much like the wiring in the door connector, I've not experienced this yet though so either search for the threads that talk about it or wait for someone who has :46: Do you know anyone locally with VagCom? You might be able to get some idea of whats causing the issues if you can read the codes within the locking module. Quote

I suspect it's something to do with that but could someone else (one of you experts) let me know your thoughts please as it seems very intermittant and quite a few different results too. I live near Heathrow Airport so if anyone knows anyone with VagCom locally I'll happily sort them out a few beers or something if they could check it out for me. If it is wiring I really don't fancy doing it myself but would any of the forum member on here be able to help me OR can someone recommend someone near Heathrow area. Failing that would it likely be an auto sparky or a garage to take it to? Cheers WJUK ps - Could it actually be a lazy / fault drivers door motor? Edited January 18, 2010 by wackojackouk Quote
wackojackouk Posted January 18, 2010 Author Report Posted January 18, 2010 Hi guys Just popped out to Tesco and couldn't get in the car without using the key to open the drivers door :) Anyway when got to Mr T's I tried using the buttons in the door arm to lock/unlock the car and only once out of three or four times did the drivers door lock when using the button to lock all doors :( Got out the car used remote and still didn't lock. Unlocked and then relocked and it was fine - :) Anyway just thought this info might help pinpoint whether it sounds like a WIRE problem OR a MOTOR problem. As asked above - is this a job for a Auto Sparky? Thanks for reading WJUK Quote
gregers Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 i would 1st check the wires in the rubber boots, reading your posts it sounds as if the motors are working but not correctly.look in the faqs in the tech section and read up on repairing the wires. Quote

Thanks Gregers. That will be my first point of call although I will probably get an Auto Sparky to look at it as I tend to break things when I do stuff myself ;) One other thing I noticed and wonder if it is connected was that the red light on the drivers side rear door only works when the door is shut. I thought the bulb had gone but when I was in the boot this morning it was working. Opened the door and it wasn't. Passenger side works fine regardless. Anyone think it could be a wire in this door as well? Cheers for reading everyone and for your input. WJUK Quote
wackojackouk Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 Hi guys Just a quick update. Had a auto sparky around today and he sorted the door (touch wood). Was a broken wire as suggested (red and white one I think) and a few of the others were frayed or the casing going so he sorted them. He also did the drivers back door (oooerr) and two wires were broken and 3 more frayed in there. Didn't get to look at the other side but everything working ok now. Only downer is Quote

wackojackouk Posted January 25, 2010 Author Report Posted January 25, 2010 140 large ones, couldve done it yourself m8 lol. Yeah once I saw what he did it looked a bit easier than I thought however I've never used a soldering iron before and he fixed about 8/9 wires so can't complain for his time. Also what with the crap weather and the fact my car is not in the garage at night due to building work (that was meant to be finished before Xmas :D ) got a bit more piece of mind (although hoping not to tempt fate). Did ring another place and they wanted Quote
