mrsmagoo1974 Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 hii have a galaxy glx 2lt engine , a few years ago my turbo decided to pack up so that was renewed but sinse the revving problem has got worse now its constant , as soon as its started it sounds as if i have my foot on the exelerator thats only if the car is stationary and my foot is not on the exelerator, if i pull off in 1st or 2nd the revs die down , but if i break without pressing the clutch pedal the same time it goes to slow down then feels as if theres a rocket on the car it starts to speed up quite fast and still revs,if i break with pressing the clutch the same time it slows down fine , i was told it might be my clutch but then was told my car would not stall if the clutch was going but it stalls great , its a good car and id love to keep her but im desparate to stop this problem as its getting a serious hazzard :46: any advice id be greatful of .thankscarol Quote

seatkid Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 No such thing as a vaxwaggon 2ltr engine with a turbo fitted to P reg Galaxy :46: Is it a diesel 1.9 Tdi or 2.0 litre petrol? Quote

seatkid Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Whats the rpm of this revving? (Look at the dash rev counter) Quote
mrsmagoo1974 Posted January 18, 2010 Author Report Posted January 18, 2010 Whats the rpm of this revving? (Look at the dash rev counter) its revving at between 1 and 2k , the exact model is galaxy glx 1900 diesel p reg, i was told it could very well be my throttle position sensor and was asked for part number ,ive never taken parts off car and theres 2 white clips stopping the cover coming off no bolts or screws and i cannot get it off for the life of me . Jayton Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 If the early Throttle position sensor (TPS) are like the later ones it's a unit that's attached to the accelerator peddle, 3 bolts to take it out (1 at the bottom and 2 up top, all are 8mm) and the electrical plug on top. I'm also having problems with my Throttle position sensor, it happens when I accelerate or attempted to, the rev counter goes to normal idle speed then slowly goes up to 1100rpm, sometimes I can get away with it by turning the car off and back on and it will work for a few hundred yards then happen again. If you take it off to have a look, remove the 5 screws and clean up the brushes and maybe bend them a little upwards (ever so slightly), reassemble and try it out again. I found 1 on ebay for Quote
Caff Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Don't know if this is similar but reading your post sounded familiar. A couple of years ago when I started the engine it revved excessively as if I had my foot flat on the floor. This was not every start up. Very embarrassing! If I braked it was as if I had my foot on the throttle still. I found the best way to remove the problem was to drive off and the revs would drop to normal. The solution was to change the water temperature sensor. Loads of strange behaviour went after that and I had forgotten this little tantrum behaviour. Not sure if this the same problem as yours but I thought I'd mention it. Cath Quote
seatkid Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 (edited) Your description is too vague for me to be sure. Revving could be due to a faulty temperature sensor or intermittent wiring/connection to it. I would have thought any fault in the the TPS (throttle position sensor) would cause the engine speed go a default (c 1200 rpm) and the throttle no longer work until the engine is restarted so I dont think its that. she also has a power problem sinse turbo went to , if i get to a certain speed she pulls back and will not go over 60 on the motorway but to get to that speed seems to take foreverThe lack of power is most likely to be due to a faulty MAF sensor.
