Bigjeeze Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Hi Ben - do a search - It could be the cables or it could be the selector pin. If it's the cables you can re fit the ball & socket end back onto the selector and it may last for a while - if it is the cables you will need to replace them. If the selector then it is a little more difficult. Do a search as this is quite a common problem. Quote

The cup of the ball joint at the gearbox end of the selector cable has worn and popped off. You can do a tempory fix if you put it back in place and then "wire tie" the two control cables together. If you look down into the engine bay just behind the battery box you should be able to see the problem. Quote

If you look down into the engine bay just behind the battery box you should be able to see the problem. hi guys this is the first forum i have ever been on and i am amazed that anyone wanted to help.had a look today a little dificult as very tight for space and found the rods you speak of, mostly by feel.the 2nd higher one seem very sloppy and as i looked more found a loose cable tie that didnt look original ford.could this be the problem and the evidence of a previous fix.i will have a closer look and get it on the lift.is it it easier to access it from underneath from behind the engine.can i recable tie it?also you mention cabletieing the two cables together is that rightmany thanks for you help you seem to have had the same problem as me at some point thanks again my out look on the human race has improved Quote
