JohnR Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 For a few years now, I have been using two sets of tyres on the Galaxy, having acquired a spare set of Audi A6 alloys from the breakers. Whilst not generally required in most of the UK flatlands, I drive to the alps every year and so keep one set of rims with winter tyres, the other with the hardest summer compound I can find (for decent mileage). For summer, I have found the Accelera Alpha (225/55/16 ZR 99W XL, all four corners fitted for Quote

seatkid Posted January 27, 2010 Report Posted January 27, 2010 Do these cars need reinforced tyres?Yes - they need to have a load rating of at least that specified by the manufacturer - check the manual. Quote
Jayton Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 About 2 minutes after posting that I read in other posts about needing XL/RF rubber. Quote

JDHogg Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 I have used Nokians in the past - found that they do give good grip etc in the winter, however, the fronts I had fitted didn't last too long - can't remember exactly but definitely wear much faster than regular summer tyres. They lasted about a year and as I only do about 12k per year I didn't think they were good value all things considered. I've stayed away from winter tyres since these ones, esp' as we get snow relatively infrequently - I just try to have a decent pair of summer tyres fitted with plenty of tread, esp to the fronts. They have been just fine this year, even with all the snow - just need to make sure you don't go around like Speedy Gonzalez ! (Unless you live in Scotland where the snow is much worse, I believe...?) IMHO some of this stuff in the news about needing winter tyres, I think could just be vested Tyre interests trying to drum up more business. Quote
