MrT Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Does anyone know of a electrical device I can buy for my Galaxy which will turn power (12v) on the with the ignition, stay on with the ignition and remain on for a set period (up to an hour) after the ignition is turned off? I have accessories in the car (GPS, mobile phone etc. <2A) that I want to remain on when I turn the car off for brief stops, but not to remain on for longer periods that would drain the battery. Guest nimrod Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 this may do the job ......... timer relay or try your local Tandy's or such like for similar devices Quote
Dave-G Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 When I bought my last tdi the stereo would only operate for 1 hour at a time....for the very reason that you describe....a phone had been linked to the stereo! however, the local ford dealer "put back the correct fuse" to allow ignition on/off the 1 hour facility is still there, If I turn on the stereo after turning off the ignition B) SO..somewhere there IS a 1 hour duration feed B) butidontknowwhere B) Like many other members, you have omitted the age of your gal, I dont know if this applies to MK1's Quote
MrT Posted April 11, 2004 Author Report Posted April 11, 2004 The one hour function is built in to the radio. It has an "ignition" sense wire that senses when the key is removed from the lock. The Galaxy actually has quite a sophisticated power management system built in. It will actually start shutting things down to save power if you leave it for several weeks without touching it or if the battery starts to get low. If I left my stuff turned on long enough it would not flatten the battery, but I don't want the battery to get that low. As an aside, the centre console has four switches either side, the bottom right one is not used in mine and has a blank cover. Can you get a normal switch that fits in here or does it only come as one for a specific purpose and sign? Quote
Guest nimrod Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 The switches are marked for a specific purpose, they also have specific fit plugs on the rear of them! either get one from a breakers and cut the plug off the loom to match and then remove the logo off the switch or do as andyjflet as done and fit an after market switch into the existing blank Quote
Dally Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 MrT I really don't know what that blank could be used for. With all options and mod cons fitted, there is still no 'official' use for this blank switch to my knowledge. Quote
