Hi folks, I've got myself a nice 53 Galaxy 1.9TDi Ghia with full leather and DVD multimedia system. Even though it's a one owner , 40000 miler with FSH plate, I'm having bother with the DVD system. Looking through posts here I see it's an all too common thing.

Anyway, the system worked fine for a few weeks then the sound stopped working (I use a small ipod/mp3 dock amplifier as my kids are too small for headphones). This became annoying and the time honoured tradition of giving it (the centre console) a thump worked and the sound was restored! For a few days. Now it is just a hit or a miss if it works. A couple of weeks ago one TV stopped working but then came back on again!!

I dismantled the system to check for dodgy connections but found nothing untoward.

So, does anyone have any experience of the same? I guess it's the control module that is at fault - unless anyone knows any better. I see it's not a cheap piece of kit to purchase so if anyone has one available for a decent price let me know. Failing that I shall purchase a full headrest DVD kit from ebay and change the whole system.

Hopefully some of you can help.

Thanks a lot

I've taken lots apart now, you'll find the back of the DVD player has phono out's on it at line level so you can bypass the control box for the sound and go direct into your mini amp.

As for the screen, everyone I've seen so far has been down to the connector under the seat - remove the tape and check the wiring as it enters the connector (not the connecor itself) as it seems to have been bonded too tight causing the cables to be stressed as they enter the back of the connector.

Hi again guys,

finally got round to popping audio cable on the audio out sockets of the DVD player. But the same fault! Exactly the same sound (or hiss).

Looks like it's the player itself that is at fault.

Anybody had experience of this?

Thanks again everybody

If you did can you let me know what and how you fixed it as I have the same problem.
