edatelder Posted January 9, 2010 Report Posted January 9, 2010 Gal MkII TDi 2002 - does anyone know what the two yellow plastic spring loaded switch type thingys are under the driver's seat? One is mounted vertically with a blue, a brown and a black wire to it. The other is mounted further back and horizontally with a white and a black wire. This one is broken on mine with a couple of springs exposed. Quote

This one is broken on mine with a couple of springs exposed. They arn't switches, but connectors for the SRS Airbag system - specifically, the side bags mounted in the front seats. They are sprung loaded caps to keep the connector "made" and make it impossible to simply come undone without human intervention. Quote
edatelder Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 Thanks, Mirez. Probably explains why I have a permanent air bag fault warning light on and the warning message each time I start. I will try to replace the broken connector or simply use an electrical cable conection block to join the wires together. Quote

Just be carefull, you dont want that going wrong and deploying an airbag when your driving! You'll also need to get the code reset as the VW system wont reset airbag faults once logged Quote
Bigjeeze Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I would suggest disconnecting the battery and waiting for 30 mins before doing anything on the electrical side of Airbags. Don't forget to make sure you the radio code before you disconnect the battery. Quote
