Hi

I have a 1999 Galaxy, can anyone explain which keys do what? I have read the other posts re programming new ones & am still unsure exactly what I have!!!

I have a key with black top that has the buttons for remote locking etc. & another similar key with black top but no electronic buttons, is this 2nd key

also programmed to arm/disarm the system if used manually in the lock ??

Hope that makes sense?

Hi John,

The key with buttons has the remote fob i.e. it can lock and unlock the doors and arm & disarm the alarm (if fitted). It also has the PATS transponder to disarm the engine immobiliser.

The key without buttons has only the PATS transponder.

Both keys should be able to open all doors and start the engine. But clearly, only one can disable the alarm.

The codes and programming of the remote and PATS are completely separate i.e. if the battery in your remote dies, you should still be able start the engine (after manually disabling the alarm with the emergency key, of course).

Best wishes,

Yuri.

Fred,

where is the remote receiver? In my case seems to be not working. Is it in the driver door somewhere around rear mirror? If so, I guess the wire in the boot as broken. Any other suggestion?

I have radio-controlled remote.

Cheers, V.
