billywizzo Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 hisuddenly today the car was making a horrible grinding noise and seemed like i was always pulling away in the wrong gear if you know what i mean.when i looked under the car the only thing i could see was that the drivers driveshaft is rubbing on the engine cover.when the car is a full lock both ways, the drive shaft is not near the cover.i had a pull on most things and not found any play that might suggest what was wrong.i was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what might have happened. Hopefully your galaxy is not near driveshaft failure as I experienced couple of months ago.... i did try the driveshaft and i could not feel any play on either side nor if i tried to rock the engine from the top.i have not had the cover off to look under there as it got dark to quick and now wont be able to do anything untill wednesday so hope it will keep going till then at least Quote
billywizzo Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 just to follow up, do people think it would be ok to drive the car with this fault untill it can be looked at on wednesday.after tomorrow the car does not need to be used untill next tuesday so lots of time to try and fix it if i can find out what is wrong. Bigjeeze Posted January 4, 2010 Report Posted January 4, 2010 Sounds like the engine stabilser bolt has sheared to me - That happened to my Mk 1 the stabiliser bolt broke and the D/S ended up rubbing on the engine shield. Try getting hold of the engine again from the front and trying to rock it backwards and forwards. If that isn't it I would not drive it until I had an explantion - for the D/S to move so drastically it cannot be good.! Quote
billywizzo Posted January 4, 2010 Author Report Posted January 4, 2010 i tried moving the engine and all i get is a slight squeek from the passanger side of the engine but no movement that would indicate a mount gone.will drive it tomorrow ( 44 mile round trip ) and hopefully look into it on wednesday if it does not die on me. billywizzo Posted January 6, 2010 Author Report Posted January 6, 2010 just to say that i was under the car today, bit cold and snowy, and found the engine stabilizer mount bolt sheared.Got it off and have a new one and new bolt on order from ford.so hopefully get it fitted tomorrow or friday depending on when it arrives due to the snow. billywizzo Posted January 9, 2010 Author Report Posted January 9, 2010 Easy to fit and now seems ok while driving.Just have to get the spare wheel to come down and fix the spare wheel carrier that has also broken.More fun in the cold. Quote
