Guest Rockdoctor Posted December 31, 2009 Report Posted December 31, 2009 My 2.3 petrol Gal is from 2002 and has gradually accumulated faults, none of which are critical. So far I have;1) a suspected leak in the aircon (recharged it three times, and after the most recent one at Kwik-Fit it was empty after only a couple of months)2) a non-functioning rear screen washer (I fixed a passenger floorwell leak, but afterwards still no liquid emerges at the back)3) non-functioning cruise control (since I bought it three years ago)4) wobbly steering wheel at speed - might be a wheel needs rebalancing5) broken support bracket on centre-box of exhaust6) non-functioning windscreen demister (discovered today) Obviously some of these are just money - get wheels rebalanced, replace exhaust centre box, some have the potential to be a nightmare (aircon), and some don't matter much (cruise control). I'm just wondering how much I should bother with these, given that the car still works and passes its MOT. Are any of them easy fixes (I'm wondering about the windscreen demister)? I've kept up with the important stuff - got the rear brake pads and disks done, new tyres, anti-roll bar - but I'm wondering if the decline in the functioning of the gadgets indicates that something major is coming. edatelder Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 As you say, most of it comes down to money. And time. 4 and 5, the rebalancing and exhaust are worth doing as they could save you much more expense in future, e.g. new tyres and the exhaust dropping off on the motorway. Quote
gregers Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 demister might be a fuse???or has it had a new screen fitted and the wires not reconnected??cruise control, well theres plenty of info on here about it.do a search and check the basic things,if still not working then it depends on the size of your wallet.rear screen washer, recheck the pipe, and see if there is a blockage? Guest Rockdoctor Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 Thanks for comments. Can anyone tell me how to access the wires that connect to the windscreen heater? I had a quick look and it wasn't obvious. I just got back from a quick run and had a strong burning smell from somewhere. The aircon may be the problem - my wife had left it on auto and I realised it was trying to dehumidify the car with no coolant - maybe the pump is overheating? Quote
