Hi everone out there in Galaxy land.

Has anyone had problems with funny smells coming from the vent system on these cars? :P

Also ABS light on can this be caused by a faulty wheel pick up? :angry:

Funny smells could be bacteria in the air con.

 

You can get spray to sort this out.

 

I also had a ABS light on. Try a few hard emergency stops..sometimes you can get a bit of rust from the brake discs getting stuck near the wheel sensor.

 

Also check the ABS connectors, you can see them under the front wheel arches just behind the wheel.

 

If this does not work you will have to get it diagnosed at your friendly Fraud dealer.

The smell has been mentioned by others on the forum and it can be caused by mildew/mould growing on the aircon condensor, the mildew/mould growth can be sorted with a can of cleaner from a good motor factors or it has been done by spraying a weak solution of milton through the heater systems air intake!

the ABS light could be several things but a duff wheel sensor can be a cause along with bad connectors in the wheel arches! they are rather vunerable to the damp! it could be a case of road crap build up around the sensor or on the hub blocking the sensor getting a reading

it would be worth your while getting the codes read and then decide on the action you take, the sensors are not that hard to change especially if you know which one is U/S

a quick check is turn the ign on or start engine abs system goes through a self check mode if the light goes of and then comes on after you start driveing it is one wheel speed sensor if it goes out then comes straight back on its proberly an intenal eletrical fault, worth checking the tyres are they all worn about the same, one tyre worn more than any other will cause it to come on at speed, the abs light can come on if the alternator is over chargeing if you can use a multimeter i can give you the resistances for the sensors

the typical values are 0.9 / 1.3 k ohms you should also check the screen wiring for resistance the screen wiring is usually a third terminal on the abs connector and the resistance should be about 100 k ohms ( ie open circuit ) you can also set your meter to ac volts and spin the wheel whilst probing the wires depending what speed you spin it at should get a output voltage typical is 0.25 milli volts. if they all check out okay then you will have to get the wireing diagrams for the abs ecu then check them at the ecu connector to see if there is a broken wire/ high resistance good luck ! B)

Yet thanks again; whilst checking the front ones I had all ready done the O/S which came back as 1.07K within tolerances the security bolt adapter sheared :( all because some D**k H**d hardened down the bolts dry, so now have to get it out somehow. Any way thanks again :( .

are you testing them in-situ all you need to do is discconect them or do you mean that you found the bolt sheared ? is it loose could be the problem !!!!!!

Yes I am testing in situe but you have to take the wheel off to get at the plug easly enough.

Any rate I needed to get the wheels off to check the pads and copperslip the bolts.

Found FNS sensor open circuit all the others between 0.9k and 1.38k new one ordered from friendly Fraud dealer,

Thanks for all the help everone new sensor fited and ABS now out and working ???? havent actualy tried it yet.

Still got 5 pink blocks even though I've been a good boy :D

They stay pink until you been naughty then they change colour! click on the % and you get a list of why you have been warned :D
