susrah0 Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 hi there i have a ford galaxy 2.3 ghia x my problem is that if i leave the car for more than a fortnight without starting it the battery is drianed of power i have been to a auto electrician who had a play around and found the drian was somewhere in the drivers door and was not sure how to cure it but said if i pull the number 19 fuse which controls the central locking this would help it does in the summer but in the winter the same old problem comes back have brought a in car solar panel to help keep the charge in the battery up but would like a normal car again any idaes would be very helpfully Quote
seatkid Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 If you have illuminated vanity mirrors, check them. When the plastic frame cracks then the lights dont switch off when closed. You can disconnect the lights at the plug in the headlining - just unscrew the mounting and pull the wires out. Quote
f0ster Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 Hello first of all you need to see exactly how much power is being consumed, I know of a few manufacturers who claimup to 130ma is ok and that after a fortnight the battery will be incapable of starting the car, connect a multi meter in series with the battery lead,(be carefull not to break the connection as you do it,) when the car is parked and lockedyou will see what power is being consumed, I had a case of an air con relay stuck shut that caused power drain, not excessive, but enough to cause a problem, when you have seen what is being drained you can isolate the circuit from the fuse box Quote
