Greetings - I am after some help... ...Yesterday (19/12/09) I noticed a noise coming from the engine which sounded like an air raid siren(!) After looking at the engine, it is coming from the belt (left) side of our 1.8 TD 2008 Galaxy Ghia. I cannot detect exactly where it is coming from, but the engine makes this 'whining' noise at intermittent times when it is revved, but all the time when the steering wheel is turned - at this point, there seems to be a little resistance in the steering, but it is not effected overall. We live in Cyprus at the minute (serving overseas) and the Cyps charge the earth for repairs. If anyone can give me an indication as to what the problem is, I would be grateful. Edited by thehubbucks

I might be a bit late with this, anyhoo, our alhambra did somehting similar for a while. It sounded like the fan belt (accessory belt?) needed tensioned. Eventually the alternator pulley sheared off, requiring the alternator to be removed and a new pulley put on by a specialist.

The pulley also smashed one of our air conditioning pipes as it left the engine bay but the air conn hasn't worked in years so i haven'y bothered trying to fix that.
