Ignition Barrel

hi there guys, i need a guide and some help please

 

i have found a complete lock set for a galaxy at a scrappy ( yes i was allowed to walk around )

 

it has the same keys as mine and two of them so i have removed the door locks and the boot lock i cant get the ignition barrel out the scrappy want 15 quid to remove it as of the air bag but when i replaced the locks on my veccy it was a small grub screw underneath to remove the barrel can some please tell me how to do it please as i cant see any way the barrel is being held in place

 

the reason for changing the locks is because i only have one key at present and only one lock that works on my galaxy so i want to change them all. the little pats chip is loose so that will be easy to swap over

you have to drill a small hole in the housing and apply pressure to the latching pin holding it in place, while pulling on the key you have inserted into the switch and twisted to position 2, so it does just pull out of the switch!

on the barrel housing you will find a triangular flat cut out, remove the pats sensor ring to see it, this is where you drill the hole, center of hole is 2mm up from base of cut out and 2mm up off the center line of the cut out drill size 4/5mm should do the job! drill out the spare barrel first to get an idea of where you need to drill on yours so you dont screw up!

 

and dont think that you can take the pats system off the scrapper and just use it to save you getting the keys reprogrammed, as you cant! the system is locked to the main ECU and removing it and stuffing it in your car will mean a costly trip to the dealers to get it all reprogrammed! which you will be doing anyway to get the new keys programmed in as you cant do it with only one key!

as mk2vr6 has said,seems a lot of bother for nothing,get another key from eabay and a new blank take it to your local timpsons and get it cut iirc about

only have one key at present and only one lock that works on my galaxy............... so how are you going to program in the second key? the Passive Anti Theft System is the thing the transponer chip is all about, I said not to rip out the pats system from the scrapper and drop it into yours as its linked to the main ECU and will mean you have to visit the dealers to get it all set up again
