After a longish run, and when the engine has got hot, i get a sort of tapping noise when i switch off the car

Obviously something keeps running after the engine has been turned off (fan???) and whatever it is, it now makes a tapping type of noise

Its not mega loud, but you can hear it in the car, and also when you stand next to the car

It seems to stop after about 3 or 4 miniutes

Its a 2006 Mkll with 72,000 on it

Any ideas, and should i be worried???

Cheers Dave

The electric water pump that runs after the engine is switched off? It's used to prevent hot spots building up in the engine. They go noisy when they start to wear.

It's located slightly to the right of centre near the bulk head.

If you are still under warranty get it done as it costs around

To be honest if you can remove it yourself (like most of us do) then you can repair it yourself with some new Bosch brushes for approx

Hi Bobd try these, part number as follows : (Bosch 2 604 321 904) These are i believe for a power drill and are slightly bigger approx 5.5mm x 5.5mm x 15mm so will need to be rubbed down gently. If any of you get stuck let me know and i will see if my local supplier can get them 4u?
