lee Z Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 HiI have a problem with the power. The car runs ok until it gets hot. Then when I reach 45 MPH exactly there is power loss and the car still drives but there is very little acceleration. When this happens I switch on and off the ignition and the problem goes away. it does not happen most of the time. I have changed the MAF sensor and I will change the MAP sensor this weekend. Some tells me it might be the ECT sensor. Is this easy to change myself and does anyone know where I can get a manual showing all the sensors to try to resolve this issue. Ford Garage Cant find the problem and suggests I change the turbo at Quote
Saif Rehman Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 Also does anyone know a diagnostic company that can find this problem near croydon, wimbledon, sutton. Thanks Any good decent garage will have a diagnostic machine, shop around for a price but try to avoid main dealers as they are very expensive. Quote
seatkid Posted December 15, 2009 Report Posted December 15, 2009 A lot of "limp home mode" problems are due to leaks in the vacuum piping associated with the turbo control system - perished piping and pipes that have dropped off of been inadvertantly pulled off at servicing. Its a pain, but carefully work you way through the vacuum piping and check it out. Check the piping to the vacuum accumulator on MkII diesels and also the braking system main vacuum piping which often splits. The other problem is sticky vane actuators on turbos - this only applies to cars fitted with variable vane geometry turbos - i.e. 110bhp and upward. They can be freed with a bit of wiggling and application of lubrication - do a search of the forum , it may be in the FAQ - lots of "how to" pictures. 90% certain its one of the above. Quote

seatkid Posted December 17, 2009 Report Posted December 17, 2009 How about the Mass air flow meter? Common symptom is loss of power when these malfunction...He's already changed that... Quote

Will keep you posted. thanks Quote
f0ster Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 hello could be the boost control circuit, the vac pipes get blocked with oil and the boost control then cannot respond fast enough and it over shoots, causing the ecu to register excess boost and shut down in to safe mode, start with the cheap stuff like all the vac pipes, then the n75 valve Quote
studsmassive Posted December 22, 2009 Report Posted December 22, 2009 hi there i had a galaxy a few years ago and the first day i took it out got to 70 mph and just went flat but if i turned off hen back on it would be alright up to 70 again after a week of being checked at diff garages it was found to be a pipe which runs up to ecu that was weak and suck in on boost and putting into limp mode .
