Rear Passenger Door

The rear door on my car won't lock on the central locking, is this a common problem, mines is a 96 2.0 glx. I'm trying to get advice regarding it being a relay(hopefully) or something else.

Rear door = rear hatch? if so check the wires in the rubber boot where they pass from the car body to the hatch, its a common failure :o

Thanks very much for your info, I've got a sort of mechanic involved who now thinks the motor has gone in the door, I'll get him to check the wires as you suggest.
