SteveB Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 A very wet road and a woman stamping on her brakes for no reason ( wasn't even speeding or close either ).... oh yeh and I'll never buy cheap tyres again ( Accelera's... avoid them! )... ended up with my nose UNDERNEATH the bakc end of the megane. French filth 1, Galaxy 0  Sadly it looks like its a write-off :) Trying to persuade my wife to let me spend a bit extra and get an 02 plate Ghia TDi Quote

gregers Posted December 9, 2009 Report Posted December 9, 2009 sorry for your news steve,at least you dont sound as if you/anyone was injured which is the main thing, cars can be replaced i:e WITH A 02 PLATE GHIA :) . Quote

Saif Rehman Posted December 10, 2009 Report Posted December 10, 2009 Yep, that is definitely a write-off, however, if you like the car so much you may be able to buy it back from the insurance company and source parts to repair it pretty cheap as long as the chassis isn't damaged/misaligned. Quote

TBH It's not really worth it. It needed a new clutch and a few other bits of work so it'll be "coming to a breakers yard near you!" got my eye on another one already ( cause I'm fickle like that! ) Incidentally does anyone know if the radio is coded to the car? reason I ask is that I had my own stereo in there ( which I'm going to be retrieving ) and still have the original ford one and I wondered whether it was worth me hanging on to it and possibly ebaying it? but I have a feeling the stereo is encoded to the car.. in which case it's more hassle than it's worth. seatkid Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Oh dear..... shame really cause I quite like it... time to book it in to my friendly garage...If I were you I'd take it back for a full refund and find one without major faults. Quote
gregers Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 iirc under the sale of goods act,you have 28 days to list all faults and report them to the suppling dealer and ask them to rectify, they will no doubt try to get you to claim on the warranty(if 1 was issued)up to you if you want or refuse and say to them that they have to fix it,ie its not fit for purpose, and if theyve got any brains when you say to them you have seeked legal advice watch them buckle.phone up the relative peeps for advice they are very helpful. big_kev Posted January 8, 2010 Report Posted January 8, 2010 Sadly I have this real sinking feeling I have bought a turkey  ..... Its not that bad........imagine the poor sap that's bought Maz's Toyota... Take it back and either get your money back or the faults fixed...(if from a dealer ! ). Quote

Also they owe me money for the tax as they wrote out the wrong amount so I'm waiting to see if that turns up before I start getting nasty. Once it does I'll also be having a rather intersting chat with them about why they left a side impact airbag under the passenger seat and plugged in!!!! Unfotunatley the garage is the other side of London from me so I'd have to take a day off to get to it. Bloody car dealers!!! it's true what they say you can't trust them at all! Edited January 10, 2010 by SteveB Quote
seatkid Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 unfortunately the warranty only covers mechanical ( gearbox and engine ) so it's a case of tough ( second hand dealer not a main dealer sadly ).I think you will find the law states otherwise. Speedo problems means it is not roadworthy /MOT failure. Quote

Don't think I have much to go on with the speedo as it's an intermittent fault and the vehicle has a years MOT so I would hazard a guess it was working at the time. The airbag is another matter entirely and I will be giving them a call about it. Quote
gregers Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 as i have already posted, you have 28 days from time of purchase,MEANS ABSOLUTELY SOD ALL IF ITS A BACK STREET DEALER.its called law, under the sale of goods act etc etc,i:e fit for purpose,do not be fobbed off by them.time is of the essence. when i purchased my car about 3 years ago i had numerous problems with it,and after they tried to call my bluff THEY LOST :) they thought they knew better  they didnt listen to me at all,so it cost them a bloody fortune, and this wasnt done on the warranty. The airbag is another matter entirely and I will be giving them a call about it. The vehicle is clearly not as described / you were told. You need to put in writing that due to the current faults (list of faults) the vehicle is not fit for purpose and you will give the dealer 28 days to make good by refund/replace or repair. If not, off to the small claims court. Ask yourself this, if you knew of the faults that you have discovered would you have still bought the car, if yes then go to your friendly garage and pay to have it fixed, if no then you've been done and should get some compensation. mumof4 Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 when i bought my vectra from a second hand dealer, the water pump thingy mebob went on it the next day leaving me stranded by the side of the road. I had it towed back to the place where i bought it from and they fixed it free of charge. i put it all on ere if you wanna search back through my few posts. lol. ring em/write em/ talk to trading standards. then do as john suggests if they dont play ball. I remember when gregers had his probs.. took a while but he got it sorted!! coz he listened to us lot. Quote
SteveB Posted January 14, 2010 Author Report Posted January 14, 2010 (edited) ... the story continues B) ...... ( not for the faint hearted!..... ) Took the car into my local garage ( super bunch of guys, I've used them for a while now ).. anwyay they fixed the airbag and where looking at a few other faults, they asked me to pop over as the following was revealed : Badly Corroded Brake lines at the rear!!! ;) :D ( I looked at them and they were falling apart! )Front steering rack gaitor loosetear in front ball joint coverfont Brake disks wornExccesive (sp) noise in the gear box / clutch2 actuator motors for AC not working ( hence why I was getting no heat to my tootsies! not fun in this weather! )Garden hose ( or similar ) used to patch a break in the AC line No gas in the ACFront and rear parking sensors need 2 new sensorsCorrosion under the handbrake lever ( should have warranted a cautionary advise note on the MOT )Speed sensor requiriing replacementNo communication with the auxhiliary heater Basically their tester couldn't believe it had passed an MOT 2 weeks ago! Phoned the dealer and let them have it...... they are picking the car up tomorrow and giving me a courtesy car... Mirez Posted January 14, 2010 Report Posted January 14, 2010 Reject the car, I wouldn't want that lot being fixed by a company that was happy to pass it as ok in the first place. Quote
