davewill Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 Whilst driving today i went to accelerate, and there was hardly any pick up in speed It did accelerate but very gradually and slowly I've got a 2006 Mkll Gal with 72000 on it I've seen posts here with regards to loss of power and probable causes, turbo vanes, MAF sensor etc and just wondered if my lack of boost could be one of these Oh and the usual happened, turn off engine and then back on, and the problem had gone away Quote
Mirez Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 If the power came back its unlikely to be the MAF and almost certainly the sticking turbo vane problem. Do you do a lot of town driving? Low RPM's? When the engine is properly warm (ie, been running for a good 30mins or so) then find a nice road and use the entire rev range - ensure there isn't anyone behind you though as its likely to put out a lot of smoke! Quote

We had this with the last galaxy and on the way home after picking it up as well! Its an awfull feeling when you've not experienced it before and you've just bought it! Luckily I had done a little reading prior to buying the Mk2 and had read about engine off/on resetting it - once that worked I booted it all the way home (some 15 miles) and the smoke got less and less - it never had the problem again in the year and a bit we owned it. I do subscribe to seatkids thoughts on his miracle "Millers" diesel additive though, and whilst I use another brand the emissions are very low at MoT time. Quote
gregers Posted December 3, 2009 Report Posted December 3, 2009 yeah give it a good italian tune up. Quote
Willie Krashitt Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 To add to the previous, while using Millers or similar is perfectly ok, it is a lot less messy to use a tankful of a 'premium' diesel like Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate now and again. Yes, they are more expensive than the standard diesel fuels, but they do have a much better detergent additive in them which will help clean the system out. Engines get more power and run quieter as well as these fuels have a higher cetane number. Have to agree on the 'Italian Tune-Up' though - exercise those vanes! lots of high load accelerations between 1700 and 3000rpm is better than simply staying on a motorway in 6th gear at high speed. George. Quote

George. Thanks Guys Mine is the Auto version (Tdi) so used the manual shift option when driving the A roads before getting to the motorway Got it up to around 3000 -3500 revs in 4th gear and held that for a mile or so When i got on motorway used the automatic function and managed 80mph for 50 odd miles at about 2800 revs. Don't forget the Auto only has 5 gears so revs are higher than the maual with 6 Anyway havn't had the problem of accelaration again since, so hopefully the "Italian Tune" has helped I will stick a tank of Vpower Diesel in this week and give it another blast Cheeers guys Quote
Jayton Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 at least it's not just me  When you put your foot down expecting the boost to kick in and it doesn't, and there is no acceleration it's almost heart breaking. I read a few times about loss of power and it being vac hoses and such, I was almost certain that's what it was until I used the search function and found this. I bought Redex to put in and shall take it for a blast later. Quote
