tom-tom1 Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Please can someone tell me the correct battery for a 2004 Diesel 130hp Ghia ? Present one is 70AH 570 cold cranking. Seems to charge OK but struggles a little to turn over . Cheers ! Quote
Mirez Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 I believe 90Ah is the recommended size, bizzaraly I've literally just got back in from replacing mine as it failed this morning. Got a 100Ah Bosch Silver battery in there now which also replaced a 70Ah and its just started instantly :) Quote

seatkid Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Mk1 Tdi requires an 017 battery (90+Ah) which fills the entire battery tray. The 096 battery is only suitable for petrol engined models and is too small for diesel models. Quote
edatelder Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 (edited) Car Battery Chooser (click on this link)Suggests 017 (90Ah) for Mk1 and 096 (72Ah) for Mk2. Edited January 28, 2010 by edatelder Quote

This sounds like it may be the problem to my starting problem then. I had always thought that the engine seemed very slow to turn over first thing in the morning, as if it was a poor battery charge, but I got it checked and it was fine ! Local motor factors here I come............... thanks Quote
DaveJH Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Tha Galaxy has large battery tray - for the diesel its perhaps best to fill it with an 017 (large competitive stocks at most commerical suppliers). I popped a Varta Silver 100AH 830A CC in my 55 plate Mk2 150bhp TDI - I did not expect problems and I have not had any - very good starting during post Christmas deep freeze. DaveJH Quote

DaveJH Apologies - I cross checked the size of my Varta Silver 100AH battery - is marked H3 (Part no 600 401 083) which may be 019 rather than 017. No matter, it shoe-horned into the battery tray and just fits at the top under the cover panel. DaveJH Quote
