mk2vr6 Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 on the slam panel passenger side, to the right of the washer bottle filler spout you will see the mounting bracket for the fan control relays, follow the looms from that, one of them will go down to the resistors which are mounted below the contoler only way of testing them is check for continuity across them and seein if the rateing is printed on the caseings and go from there Quote

frogeye Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 Hi,On my mk2 2.8V6 there is a sensor on the battery side of the radiator (about half way down). This has two temperatures stamped on it (105/95C - or there abouts), this then leads to the fan controller (I think). It could be that the lower temp is not triggering the fans and they are only coming on at the higher temp - perhaps this could be tested by shorting out the various combinations from the sensor. I vaguely remember when I was checking mine I had it stuck in boiling water with no effect and only got the fans to kick in with with a hot air gun on it (It's a shame that I didn't repeat the test with the new sensor to see what happened!). Saying that my fans only come on together even now, but my temp dial never gets past half way.Frogeye Quote
