bec Posted November 26, 2009 Report Posted November 26, 2009 Hi, The lid of my storage space (centre top of dash) does not catch anymore (I have a wedge pressed in the side with the lid down to hold it) - the model is an Alhambra 2001. I'm not sure if anything is missing (I see a angled piece of springy metal in the receiving part and the lid has a finger of plastic which presumably should engage with the metal - this cas a rebate in on the windscreen side of it). I'n not sure if this makes sense to anyone but with the storage bin costing over Quote
suzuki91 Posted November 27, 2009 Report Posted November 27, 2009 could the metal tab just need a re-bend to catch the lip? over time it may have closed up so is now not engaging.be gentle as sprung metal can snap if forced. Quote
bec Posted November 27, 2009 Author Report Posted November 27, 2009 I looked on the left hand top dash cubby today and the lid has a chrome pin which protrudes from the finger of plastic to engage with the receiving catch. Can anyone confirm if I should have a similar pin in the centre cubby lid (as I do not see anything protruding from the plastic finger on this lid)? cheers in advance Quote
bec Posted November 28, 2009 Author Report Posted November 28, 2009 It is the same catch as the left side cubby - there is a pivoting piece of plastic that allows the chrome pin to move sidewards as required by the push to open push to close catch. The pin has snapped off but the remainder of the pivoting plastic is still there - it looks like this may be replaceable - does anyone have any experience with this. Also does anyone know how to remove the cubby and/or lid (there are 2 torx screws at the window side within the vervet lined part of the cubby)? - I took these out but the cubby is holding firm. Let us know how you get on as I've a dodgy catch as well and may need the same remedy.Frogeye Quote
bec Posted November 29, 2009 Author Report Posted November 29, 2009 Thanks I'll give it a man-handle tomorrow - can I assume from your comments that the galaxy has the same moving pin catch arrangement (which, when closed, locates in what looks like an inverted heart shaped groove) to that of the Alhambra? I think I've got that wrong, I've just nipped out to check on my MK2 (I've still not refixed these cubby boxes), the centre box comes out first and then the left hand one. On mine there are a couple of locating plastic clips that slot in to the left hand box, a tiit forward then towards the steering wheel motion seems to do the trick.... but hold on there are THREE torx screws in there; two on the left and one on the right side on the box - double check this before you start with your 'man-handling'. My catches seem to be quite different to yours, a pair of small plastic 'hooks', operated by the central push button, that catch in a couple of small rectangular holes in the the front of the box. My problem seems to be that several of the roll pins on the springing up hinge contraption have been replaced by a few rolls made of folded card! This causes my lid to sit up a bit higher than it ought and buggers up the alignment of the catches with their holes. I hope you read this before getting too stuck in to wrestling with the centre box.Frogeye Quote
