dave030445 Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 hi all i have a 97 2.8v6 ghia xwhen iam in traffic the temp gauge goes right up just into the red then both fans cut in a pulls the temp back down ive had this checked out in a garage and he said that the water temp (tested it with a temp laser gun) was not getting as hot as what the gauge was saying weather you can test the water temp like this i dont know when you have two fans on the rad should one come in before the other to stop the gauge reaching the red and then if it goes into the red both fans cut in like a emergency to get the temp down if this is right what can be stopping the first fan cutting in a reasonable temp please help as wife is driving me mad thinking the car is going to blow up thanks dave Quote
dipsomaniac Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 mine has been doing this for the last 5 years. doesn't quite go into the red but very close. these engines seem to get very hot as there is not much room for air to circulate - hence the need for 2 x fans. if the mechanic is saying that the gauge reading is faulty then it must be a sensor. there are three located on the side of the thermstat housing. i think that there is one for each of the fans and one for the gauge. if you fix it can you report back. seatkid Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) I suggest you check the Engine cooling fan resistor R27 - It may be burnt out - its located in the the front of the engine compartment -dont know where - it has 2 connectors on it (or there may be 2 resistors) cant tell from the the TIS. The fans should come on at half speed and keep the temp in the middle of the range.....I think Edited November 25, 2009 by seatkid Quote

dipsomaniac Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 iirc the yellow one controls the fans Quote
