Hi Guys,

Can anyone help with my problem, some times when I start the engine it rev's up on its own and a big cloud of black smoke is pumped out the car, but it does not do it every time?

I also use lots of oil 5 litres of oil only lasts me 2 months, then i have to top it up again.....

I have a ford galaxy tdi 1.9 2003

any advice

Thanks

Joe

Diesel's rev up on their own when they are excessively burning oil and in doing so produce lots of smoke - the normal culprit is the turbo allowing oil into the intake system, remove the bottom hose to the intercooler and see if its full of oil.

Ok thanks, i will have a look, a local garage quoted me 600.00 to fit a recon-turbo does that sound ok

Sounds about right as long as it is a reconditioned unit rather than one taken straight of another vehicle and put on yours.

As above really, but I'm almost of the opinion thats a little too cheap - just ensure you know what you are getting and that its got a warranty!

And thats of course after you've had it diagnosed that the turbo is the bit that failed!

How would they check to see if the turbo is at fault, is there a certain test?

I have had the turbo checked and they said it seemed ok, is there anything else it might be?

The garage may need to overhaul the top end of engine ?
