fantawttw Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Hi All,First off many thanks for the information provided on this site. I recently got a 06 Gal and wanted to put a towbar on it, so with the help from these forums I found the following article (http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=8031) Whilst following the guide on how to remove the bumper I decided to take some pics of the actual process, hopefully this will help some one else. First off remove the covers from under the rear taillights. http://www.box.net/shared/static/iaql9hd0zj.jpg Spot the Laptop with the original walkthrough on :) Now remove the 3 screws from behind the rear wheel http://www.box.net/shared/static/xeqrhpqxvf.jpg Pull the bumper away from the side of the car. You will need to use some force but a slow hard pull made it work for me. Now to under the car, Remove the Reversing sensor connectionhttp://www.box.net/shared/static/irjb2ck1rn.jpg Undo the four bumper bolts there are two on each side.http://www.box.net/shared/static/sk5g50jsln.jpg Now partially undo the left bolt under the taillight.http://www.box.net/shared/static/911vx7sy71.jpgI know it the right side but I forgot to take a left side pic And now move the right side and undo the right bolt under the taillight. At this point the bumper may come away so I pushed it into the car with my knee whilst removing the left bolt totally. The bumper is now free from the car so simply carry it away. http://www.box.net/shared/static/r1qas89pa8.jpgIf you are replacing it with a new one then simply reverse this sequence. fantawttw Posted November 10, 2009 Author Report Posted November 10, 2009 However I was installing a tow bar so here are some pics for that to. Remove the 4 bolts from the big metal lump on the bumper. http://www.box.net/shared/static/d49ugn8tj5.jpghttp://www.box.net/shared/static/eabm95y2b7.jpg Place the two arms into the beams that have now appeared.http://www.box.net/shared/static/3cq2zsr6z6.jpg Place the three bolts through from underneath the car. http://www.box.net/shared/static/e369kl69ue.jpg You will probably want to remove the exhaust heat shield to get proper access to the ones on the left. Bolt all the Towbar bolts tighthttp://www.box.net/shared/static/vexnpl8d70.jpgReplace the heat shield Replace the bumper following the reverse of the instructions above.http://www.box.net/shared/static/5dnfzzujyn.jpgBish Bash Bosh Job done. Once again many thanks to this site for the original walkthrough. Jon Quote

frogeye Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Great pictures. Are you going to finish off with a few pics of the towbar electrics for us! :) Quote
fantawttw Posted November 11, 2009 Author Report Posted November 11, 2009 Great pictures. Are you going to finish off with a few pics of the towbar electrics for us! :D At the moment the wires are just tucked under the rear carpet :) I am currently looking at finding one of those plug adapter things so that I can plug direct into the wiring loom, I have read some posts on here about the bulb failure light and the need for a bypass relay etc. So I think it may be worth the extra money so I don't have to cut into the main wiring loom. If anyone has any suggestions as to where to get the loom adapters I would be grateful. Once I have one of those I will post some more pics of the installation of that. RegardsJon Quote
lilbob Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 have you tried ebay?that would be my first port of call Quote
Ginettamad Posted August 30, 2011 Report Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) This should really be saved in FAQs as I struggled to find decent pictures of how to remove the light plates, boot plate and rear bumper until this great post. So I'll add some of my pictures too which can also be seen in my other post re Westafalia tow bar wiring.Fixing points of cover platePoke slim knife down slots to release tabs then slide back out of side hook on right. Boot plate has keyways and pegs so should slide about 10mm left then pop up. Side fixings to bumper which need a good tug out towards you looking straight on to each side wing after 3 self tappers removed in wheel arch. New tow bar wiring kit control box fits in left cubby and piggy back connectors go to 12v feed socket and rear lamps. Right hand connectors and reverse (Green) and fog (Blue and Grey wires) loose wires to scotchlock if need be. Tow bar painted and fitted. I bent back the left side exhaust heat sheild to fit the bolts then bent it back as not critical. So no need to remove exhaust and sheild. New wires feeds down the reversing sensor wire gromit Jobs a good un! Edited August 30, 2011 by Ginettamad Quote
sishyplops Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 Just fitted a Bosal removable that I got from Towequippe, fitted in two hrs with help from these brilliant step by step pics, thanks for posting them, just a note about the Bosal, had to drill out the chassis holes as they were a few mm out to the towbar and a couple of the retaining screws were the wrong size to fit the bumper, but i did need 100kg nose weight and the Bodal looks a great piece of kit, thanks again Quote
