What sort are you after? the front drivers/passenger or the rear seats? if its just the rears your after, convert your existing by sticking a set of arm rests on them

Although they seem to be very expensive as a retro fit job when bought from the dealers the arm rests are needed if you are are going to run with the middle seat removed and the outer two moved inboard, we found that the people in the seats fell/slipped out the sides more easily due the lack of support and anything to lean on! ie. the door! when we tried it, so we run with the middle seat inplace but folded down and no falling out occurs :)

It may be easier then get the arms from the dealers and fit them yourself than to keep looking for a set of seats in the right trim colour, apart from the finacial outlay it doesnt seem that difficult a job to fit the arms?

Could you help by explaining how you fitted them.

I spent some time 'feeling' around for the hole that would need them to be screwed into but struggled. Is the hole threaded or will a nut have to be held behind?

I only have armrests on the drivers and front passengers seats, but the garage from where I bought my Galaxy from had one in that they were fitting arm rests to two of the rear seats, the seat cover is removable which gives you access to the frame and allows you to located the position the holes need to be, on the seat I looked at it had the captive nuts in place, but I cant say if all rear seats do?

I havent had the urge to strip my seats down to see if it possible on mine, yet!

Does anyone know if all the car floors are cut with the floor slots for all the seat positions?

My car is a six seater and for the middle row there are 8 mounts on the floor (4 per seat) My old seven seater had 16 mounts for the middle row.

The floor plan already has the mounting for the 7 seat option. Its just a case of cutting the carpet and fitting the floor mounts.

I also have the 6 seater and investigated the possibility of increasing my capacity to 7 seats, but the removal of the arm rests and the lack of matcing seat trims made me change my mind.

I went for the 6 seater after having the 7 seater with the middle row, middle seat with only a lap belt which I viewed as unsafe. Later on I found the newer Galaxies had a full three point belt in the middle.

However now I have a cool box and I am thinking about putting that in the middle row between the two captains chairs when required. The middle armrests would certainly be able to stay but I am not sure if the outer would catch the door.

As an aside, I was getting sick of the difficulty in tilting the back row chairs. The handles on the sides were against the CD player and Air-con respectively and you could not reach them. I had to rely on the red pull chords. However today I discovered that the tilt handles were only held on by two clips and a weak spring, so I swapped the handles round. They are now between the chairs where they can be easily reached.

Help!

Have gone and bought some armrests.

Problem is though I'm stuck about how to fix them. I've stripped the seat and there is no captive nut there. In fact there are just a number of holes and slots - none of which will hold the armrest fixing on its own.

I have been to ford and VW both say there are no further fittings available - all is on the armrest.

I am in possession of two types of armrest (see pic). The on on the left is from ford and is the only one they do. It is intended to fit on permanently.

The one on the right is a vw one and I can only assume is a 'removal' one as is described in the sales literature for the sharan.

Nimrod, you indicated that you saw one being fitted at a ford dealer - can you give any more info on this please.

Anyone else out there who may have tackled this one??

As I said in the above post remove the caps on the arms outers and under there is a bolt torx headed job IIRC? undo it and the two bits that look like they are part of the arms are actually the mounting brackets! these you secure to the seat by the means of a..... N 013 971 3 OVAL HEAD PANEL SCREW B4,8X22 according to my info? that's for the arm on the right, I am still looking for the mounting info/system for the left arm :D

fredt,

How did you guess that??

The one on the right is from him but the one on the left was purchased from my local Ford Dealer.

The Ford ones fitting is integrated into the armrest and I have the torx bolt and cap with it. The torx bolt is supposed to screw into a captive nut in the side of the seat backrest but no such nut is there.

With the VW one, the spigot assembly is bolted by a similar torx bolt but I could not rationalise the holes and slots in the side of the seat back with these. It looks as if there sould be a further plate that should bolt onto the seat backrest into which this would clip into for easy insertion and removal (note the indent on the large spigot - this suggests it may push fit as Richmond suggests).

Will try and post some pics tomorrow. The TIS disc is useless on this issue.

Thanks so far guys.

As promised - a pic of the vw spigot version is attached. I took the plastic cap off and there is no hole or screw underneath it. It appears to be an all in one piece jobby.

There has to be some interim part that fixes to the seat backrest and the armrest pushes into it. Help!

BTW

Fredt - what is a N 013 971 3 OVAL HEAD PANEL SCREW B4,8X22 ? what might it look like? Am I being stupid (perhaps been stupid buying these!)

Cheers.

Dare I suggest stripping down the front seat to see what can be done ? Preferably the nearside in case you need to drive to the dealers to get parts.....Oh and by the way I'm pretty sure there is a thread on here somewher with this title and I'm sure someone has done this job, but I think he had to strip the seats down.

N 013 971 3 OVAL HEAD PANEL SCREW B4,8X22 .......... is the screw used by VW to fix the arm locating bracket to the seat frame, from what I can gather from the parts list for the seats, the bracket with the two studs on it is fixed to the seat frame by the OVAL HEAD PANEL SCREW and then the arm is bolted to that it may be different for your arm? but I can only find two arm to seat fixing methods! one where it bolts straight to the seat and the other where it bolts to a bracket similar to yours

I will try and dig out the picture later and post it, although its not a very high quality picture  it may be of some help ?

Thanks guys.

Went to VW again today. After much discussion and persuasion by me that there must be something in between,, they have now ordered acouple of brackets that they think fit on top of the seat side and they say it is colour coded according to their parts system. They now accept that this may be the bit that the armrest pushes into and clicks in place. Will get them on Monday.

No such luck with ford though on their version. Showed them the stripped down seat and they have concluded that as there is no captive nut welded to the seat, only the captain seat option will have them. Suggest personal innovation as to how these may fit. Still thinking.

Cheers

vw failed to obtain the brackets - on back order and will have to wait.

However, I have found a picture that shows what they look like.

i made up some brackets but they are fiddly to do then migd them on,had a welded nut in they are from 18g steel but have to be folded and welde so they dont bend as people often lean on them to get in etc.they also get in way of fridge a bit so the pull off ones would be better if id known they were available.Am thinking of making stand for fridge to lift it about 6" for my new galaxy to save the hassle
