rich72 Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 hi all,i have a couple of enquiries for you knowledgeable people out there!! i dont think the egr pump/fan on the right hand side of the engine is working,i have trouble very occasionally i get a juddering/lack of power only very occasionally.plugs and leads have been changed and coil packs tested ok.i cannot feel or hear the pump operating at all compered to say a vauxhall one which sounds like a small hoover under the bonnet on start up.also i have noticed that in the small relay box on the right inner wing area there is a 30 amp fuse that keeps blowing. i have replaced it 3 times, every time i check it its ok,then the next minute its popped!its a 1997 2000cc.its my first galaxy and i have no handbook etc to guide me.oh 1 other thing is it timing chain or belt ?when is change reccomended ? thanks peeps!RICH Quote
scrappyloz Posted October 16, 2009 Report Posted October 16, 2009 The pump you are referring to is not the egr valve but the secondary air pump by the sounds of your description. You should be able to hear it slightly on startup as it takes the warm exhaust gasses and recirculates them into cold engine to help it heat up quicker to reduce engine wear. Your vauxhall one might be broken due to it sounding like a hoover as this is also a symptom of them wearing out. I would recommend just getting another one or grab one off ebay as they shouldnt be too expensive. Or you could strip it down and clean it and that might fix it. Quote
