Got a 54 plate Galaxy. Battery is charging at 14 volts. New battery fitted but goes flat after 4 weeks - anyone any ideas please?

Could be a multitude of things e.g. Faulty battery, non-standard sound system, dvd system if fitted, in-car chargers accidentially left plugged in, short journeys not allowing the battery to get fully charged, interior lights left on, if there is nothing obvious then you are going to have to carry out a 'parasitic drain test' on your car. this involves connecting an ammeter between the earth cable and the earth post of the battery and noting the current drain. there should be no more than 60mA. if there is, then you have to start removing fuses until the current drain reduces. this will indicate the circuit at fault. you will then have to test all the components fed by that fuse. this can be quite a time consuming job and may be best left to a qualified auto electrician.

you say goes flat after 4 weeks, do you mean your not using it in that 4 weeks?

with the dark nights coming early it has no-one to love it or comfort it,or gently rub a bit of wax into body to make it feel good (wax on wax off wax on wax off) com'on girl you should know better cars are like women, they need some TLC now and again (sorry just got this picture of Brum with sad looking headlights and under inflated tyres in my mind)

Seriously though as Saif states really numerous things it could be, but also if your not running it for 4 weeks it could just be that. All modern cars have various power being drawn from the battery when its not running (ie memory for clock, radio, ECU's) which over a period of time drain the battery. Yes some battery's can cope but others can't. Best thing to do is if your not actually going to use it just start it up and let it idle for 10-15 mins

Is the new battery the correct one?

There has been some discussion on this forum about batteries. The Galaxy should have a Calcium (CA) type battery IIRC.

i have been suffering from similar issue and after trying lots of things but i have a drain of 200mA and as far as i can tell there is no obvious reason for the drain, everything checks out? ford had fitted a non stadard lead acid battery during one of the services cause i complained about starting issues, this battery was rubbish! so i bought the biggest silver Ca battery i could find varta Type 019 Varta Silver Dynamic , it's massive 100Ah and only just fits the battery tray (it does fit).

you need a silver Ca battery.

Normal current drain is about 50mA. If you have illuminated mirrors in the sunvisors, check the lights go out when closed. The surround often cracks and stops the switch turning off. Temporary fix is to unscrew the mounting where it goes into the roof lining - pull the wires and there is a connector you can unplug.
