malcolm.dobell Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 (edited) 130BHP Alhambra '04 reg. Typically, turbo boost comes on stream at about 1800rpm. Following a service, it now comes on stream at about 2300 rpm. Effect is so pronouced that even my wife noticed (not very PC, but she's not normally very sensitive to the mechanical gubbins!) jkspoff Posted October 10, 2009 Report Posted October 10, 2009 Check that the vacuum hose is still attached to the vacuum reservoir at the front of the engine, next to the oil filter. They are prone to breaking off when grease monkeys get under the bonnet during servicing. Cheap to replace, but do stop the turbo working properly if not attached properly. Quote

malcolm.dobell Posted October 11, 2009 Author Report Posted October 11, 2009 jkspoff - thanks very much for the advice; I'll check. well............... I have looked under the bonnet - I don't have the means to access or remove the under engine tray - and can't even find the oil filter let alone the vacuum pipe. However, thanks for the information. It will help my discussions with the service people who are always willing to fix anything they have got wrong - which is not often! Quote
jkspoff Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 Hang on I will post a picture of it. This is a regular fault and it can be seen under the engine cover at the top. Quote
jkspoff Posted October 11, 2009 Report Posted October 11, 2009 (edited) Here is the pic of the vacuum reservoir and tube, they are common to break off or work loose, the part might look slightly different on yours as this is a new part that has been modified with a heat shield on the later models by VW. jkspoff Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I wonder why they had that off ? Probably the same reason they knocked off my air tube hose ! Quote
