Guest SA Intruder Posted April 5, 2003 Report Posted April 5, 2003 For all TDi engines up to the 110ps versions, use only VW 505 01 part-synthetic or an approved alternative such as Millers XFE-PD or Q8 Motoroil 505.01 5W-40 etc. The important thing to look for is VW 505.01 approval. For later 115ps and 130ps models, you MUST use VW 506.01 oil to prevent problems with valve gear and the EGR valve. You can also use this oil in other TDi models. These models require "LongLife" oil, and the common one used amongst dealers is Castrol SLX 2 Longlife. VW's oil requirements are known in Germany as "VW Oil Chaos" For petrol engines, the choice is far wider. Since engines are sourced from either Ford or VW according to model, check your handbook for the minimum grade rating (e.g. SL grade, the latest API spec.). Use well known brands, such as Shell, Texaco, Mobil, Castrol and so on. Quote
