Good evening everyone. I wonder if anyone has an idea where the smell could be coming from

I have a 1997 Galaxy TDI which was serviced yesterday by my Brother-in-Law, since the service when the car is started the smell l can only describe as cats wee or the smell you get when letting air out of the tyres comes from the vents. The AC is not on and the smell lasts approx. 4 minutes, it is a really strong smell.

Thanks for reading

not your booster heater by any chance is it?

thought id be the first this season to mention the bloody thing ;)

have you been using your wipers?did he change the washer fluid?

Could it be the pollen filter? Did he renew it?

As gregers already mentioned, the washer fluid if topped-up with cheap solution has been noticed to give off a horrible smell.

But in your post you say that when the car is started it smells - so i'm thinking maybe the belts being new and not had enough running time to settle in.

Thanks all for your suggestions. Yes the Pollen Filter was changed, no belts though? I don't feel the wiper washer is to blame as this hasn't been used and the smell is there only when the engine is started. The smell is not noticable when starting the car with head under the bonnet (thats sounds wrong doesn't it...lol) so l feel as suggested it may well be the pollen filter, only hope it clears soon.

Thanks again
