Hello i was wondering if its possible to remove the air con unit (seized) , and replace the belt on a 2.3 Galaxy with a non a/c unit belt, haven't seen under the bonnet as its my sisters car , is the tensioner on the alternator?.

As the compressors are very expensive and have to save up Thanks

I bought my galaxy (1.9tdi) with the air con not working , later found out some bright spark had removed the electric clutch on the pump , it runs fine though no air of course ...... will I ever fix it ?????????

Normally when the compressor seizes, the pulley on the end will still turn so as long as you make sure the compressor clutch is not also seized and remove the wire to it (so it does not engage) you should not need to remove the compressor until you are ready to replace it.

gordon, you might find that the clutch plate has fallen off and sitting in your under tray,as mine was :D ;) i was luckey i had bought another compressor ff of eabay and with the help of my m8 we changed the plate in situ and lo and behold back working correctly again.

but if its been serviced and nothing has been found then your probably right.

Hi. I have exactly the same problem on my 2.3. I have checked the compressor and it has completely seized. Managed to loosen it once but it seized almost straight away. So I'm thinking that the clutch has seized as well.

Have you been able to find out anything further on the belt issue as I have a horrible feeling that all Gal's were fitted with air con?
