Hi peeps

I just bought an 02 plate Galaxy 2.3 Auto with a dead autobox. I have bought a replacement box and started work on it on Saturday. I did plan to drop the box off and change it, but hit a snag. I am about 1/4" too short on space to get the bell housing clear enough of the flywheel to get the box off.

So, plan B. Engine and box coming out tomorrow. Don't worry, I know what I am doing (I think!) I just wish I knew that before trying to get the box off on its own. It would be much easier if they were still bolted togetrher. I will try to realign them, but it will not be easy now. Ah well, all part of the fun.

I have been working on cars since I was 10 or so. There is very little I cannot do and as you will have already gathered, I talk a good talk! Thing is, I can do the job too which is always nice. I am totally anti-main stealers and wouldn't let them sniff my butt, never mind touch my car. I would rather chew my own arm off rather than let Fraud touch my car.

Question is this.

Whilst I am doing this IO will have the whole front of the car off and will have the engine, box and torque convertor all removed. Are there any particular pics that anyone needs???? By this I mean that pic you all wish someone had taken whilst the engine was out etc.

Let me know TONIGHT if there is. I will take pics as I go and will gladly do a write up on how I did what etc if it will help anyone else.

Great looking forum peeps. I will stick around as long as I am welcome.

Can't speak for the auto but the manual requires you lower the engine and box around 4 inches or so then slide the box to the right (from the front) before it then drops to the ground as it weighs a helluva lot!

No pics of wipers. Nothing at all to do with removing the engine I'm afraid.

Ok, gearbox out, engine out and then the fun of mating the new box/torque convertor up with the engine. Not an easy job on your own.

Almost back in and the engine crane strap snapped. One of the many reasons not to go under an engine when it is suspended! Anyway, tripple webbing and back on track. Engine and box now back in. Called it a day as I am in no rush. I need to re-route some of the nightmare under the bonnet as it has LPG fitted by a british company. I say that because anywhere else they would not use cable ties, sellotape and a 4ft cable when you need 6"!!!!!

Should have it up and running by Thursday. I will post some pictures later.

Ok. Here are some random pictures taken today. I hope they may be of use to someone. By far the easiest thing was to remove the engine and box rather trhan try to line up the gearbox and torque convertor in the engine bay.

You will notice I use good quality stands and engine hoist. All my tools are also good quality. I won't say this was easy by myself, far from it. But it CAN be done.

You will see the nightmare of cables to the battery area. Normally I would just sling the harness over thewing, but on this car the clever UK engineering company that fitted the LPG used a 4 year old with some playdoh to do it. Hence the chaos.

I will eventually redo all that wiring to make it 'normal'.

ONE QUESTION peeps....

Petrol pipes. I forgot to label which was which. So does the red go at the top or the bottom onto the manifold?

not from our end they werent.

try asking first to see if there was a problem our end.

get in touch with photobucket and ask them, as they were not deleted from here. if for any reason i or one of the mods had deleted the pictures.. then there would be nothing showing except your writing.

so please, before apportioning blame on this forum , check first.

regards

Admin.

All my valuable and useful pictures deleted. Ungrateful bunch of losers!

Yep, the problem is at the photobucket end .....the clue is in "moved or deleted"....although possibly renamed as well.

It was a very nice useful set of pictures which is much appreciated....although a little frightening for some of our older members !......good work.

Pretty accurate description of most of our forum members though...

Once you fix it you would be best to post an apology to our Admin because she don't forget such things.......(unless its that time of the month ! ).

Don't worry about slagging of the forum.....it happens...we've all done it....some more than others.
