bazzoh Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Hello!further to my last post ("moving on"), we were trying to start the car (2.8 V6 mk1) ..then there was a clunk...then nothing! Now turning the crank nut, itll turn one full turn in either direction before stopping solid. A friend has suggested that it sounds like the cam chain has snapped or jumped and that its most likely a valve stopping the engine. Ive just read on here that the cam chain is on the gearbox side of the engine? and that its a box out job to sort. Has anyone had to deal with this sort of job? is "head off" do-able with the engine in situ? or is it just worth getting a second hand engine and changing it over - is it do-able with axle stands and crane (ie an amateur!) any help would be gratefully received - am dying to get it on the road and play! kindest!Barry Quote
sepulchrave Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 Yes, head off is fine in-situ, however you may want to consider replacing the entire engine with a decent secondhand unit. The engine is very big and heavy but will come out through the front of the car complete with the gearbox once you have removed the entire front end. You simply cannot get the car high enough to remove it from underneath without access to a four-poster. Quote
bazzoh Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 thanks for the info - was considering taking the front end off for better access anyway so may as well do it!thanks again!Baz Quote
