Hi All,

the turbo on my mums 06 galaxy 1.9 TDI has given up the ghost and im planning to fit a new one saturday however until this point i cant get to the vehicle and im having difficulty sourcing a new one i have reg & chassis number however it seems this isnt enough as there are several fitments. i have askd some one for the engine code off of the chassis plate which i believe should be situated in one of the front doors on a black sticker however apparently this isnt there either, does anyone have any tips on how i where i could find this information or how i can identify the correct turbo without this information

any help muchly appreciated.

Kind regards

I don't know 100% but i think the chassis plate is located on the floor near the side of the drivers seat - i believe there is a small flap where the carpet lifts up to reveal the plate. However, like i said i am not 100% but you can check.

For what it is worth,

the Ford part numbers for 2004 on turbochargers are:

90PS (Engine code AHU) XM21-9G438-AA

115PS (Engine code AUY) 6M21-9G438-AA

130PS (Engine code ASZ) and 150PS (Engine code ASZ1) 4M21-9G438-BA

Ford will charge you an extortionate amount of money - there are several posts on this site about cheaper options though, as well as cleaning up if the problem is just stuck vanes.

thanks guys as i say tho i cant get there till sat to check, i will try and get her to check the chassis plate tho and see if its in this position near the seat.

unfortunately dont think its just a clean out job, horrendous whistling and big lack of power!

Before you start to replace the turbo it might be worth checking all the hoses to and from the turbo/intercooler. Has it failed? Is there horrendous white smoke pouring out of the exhaust? The 'whistling' is usually noisy bearings which can be replaced by a good recon-company. Lack of power could be down to the ECU being in Limp mode caused by numerous things. I would start by checking all the hoses as suggested, then checking all the vacuum pipes to and from the boost control solenoid and the VNT mechanism.
