i have a intermittant knocking on the front of car which increases/decreases with wheel speed and am pretty sure it is the cv joints on near side.

can anyone advise whether i should replace both sides and how difficult a job it is to do. i have seen the sticky for replacing the joints on a manual but don't know if it is anymore difficult on an auto.

finally got around to doing this today. n/s half shaft came out of gearbox ok but there is not enough space between the autobox and sub frame to remove shaft as the inner cv joint is larger than the gap between gearbox and sub frame. anyone got any ideas? can i drop the sub frame or remove the inner cv joing in situ? nothing is ever easy on this car. NAFC Dipso ..... I would tend to go for removing the inner CV first rather than disturbing the sub-frame. Would be interested to know how you managed in the end.

had another go today and managed to remove it without dropping gearbox/subframe. it is very tight but is possible

had to get recovered the other day because i thought one of the front wheels was going to fall off due to a knocking on the front of the car which just got worse and worse over a distance of 2 miles. i replaced 3 cv joints mid oct and car has been driving ok up until now. can't see anything obvious wrong and took the car 100 metres up the road the other day and no knocking. the inner cv joint came from ebay (
