gregers Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 i knew the petrol 2ltr i had was thristy but thats TERRIBLE.how about giving it a good service,plugs/filters etc to see if that improves things a bit.maybe its missing on 1 or more cylinders and throwing the petrol out of the exhaust?im just wondering along the lines of you saying you have ordered a new cat maybe thats the reason for the orriginal failing??? welshmassive Posted September 8, 2009 Author Report Posted September 8, 2009 im going to try the cat and lamda first then everything else because the mot tester said the engine was very good and the car has only done 100000 miles. Quote
Mirez Posted September 8, 2009 Report Posted September 8, 2009 im going to try the cat and lamda first then everything else because the mot tester said the engine was very good and the car has only done 100000 miles. IF its dumping fuel down the exhaust you'll trash a new cat very quickly so be carefull! Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 (edited) A VAG com is a lot cheaper than a Cat or Lambda sensor and it will probably be a lot more use. I know that it is a lot more complex than the old petrol engines I used to drive before I discovered the diesel Galaxy but, at 100K and no known history, my first test would be to fill it up and take it for a long drive down a straight road. No thrashing, just let it build up. Look for smoke and rough running and see if it settles or gets worse. I've had motors which were useless at first but just got better and better just by giving them a few longish runs. 2 to 3 miles per litre is a lot of wasted fuel which is either burnt or lost and I think there must be some signs somewhere. Look at your oil and exhaust for anything abnormal, but do give it a longish run first. Before I got my first diesel gal I tried a 20L petrol and it seemed much as you described so I make my excuses and left. Most people sell cars because of problems and not because they want a change. welshmassive Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 the cat was just installed and the garage rang me and told me it was the lambda not the cat so i get it back later and i will let u know how it goes.thank you all for the help. Quote
welshmassive Posted September 11, 2009 Author Report Posted September 11, 2009 no good guys both cat and lambda sensor did not change the emissions they are currently on 0.12.it is going in to ford on tuesday  Quote
Mirez Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 no good guys both cat and lambda sensor did not change the emissions they are currently on 0.12.it is going in to ford on tuesday  Thats bad news but as I said before - really limit the miles you do with it, unburnt fuel passing onto the cat with kill it very quickly. welshmassive Posted September 18, 2009 Author Report Posted September 18, 2009 had the report back from ford they want 2500 to fix it.the steering rack has gone and so has the pcm which im thinking is the ecu. Quote
Scorpiorefugee Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Why didn't the MOT pick up the steering rack?Have you had the error codes read?I'm afraid you've fallen into the 'Keep replacing things until the customer runs out of money.' trap.If it has any redeeming features at all you shoud spend Quote
