Hi All

Just picked up my 2008 (58) Ford Galaxy - which has the DVD Touch screen Sat Nav system incorporating a USB and line Jack socket in the glove box.

I can connect and play both my Ipod Touch & Classic 80GB through the line Jack - obviously controlling it on the Ipod itself. And it sounds ok.

However when connecting either Ipod to the USB socket I get the full interface on the car Sat Nav screen, showing which track is playing, I can browse, etc as normal but I get no sound whatsoever.

Now I am using the Ipod to USB cable that I use to connect the ipod to my laptop - I am assuming this cable does not carry sound, so I need a specific cable. Am I right?

Have found this cable - is this the one I need?

Can anyone please confirm this?

Cheers now

Hi Matt,

I have the same problem with my brand new S-Max. Did you solve the problem? Any advice?

Thanks.

I have the same problem with my 58 Galaxy, though I have had the car a year and it has been working fine until yesterday. I have ruled out the cable and the car (I think) as when I tried with my iPhone it all worked normally.

I'm using an iPod Classic 160gb with a Ford Y cable and yes, you have to have the USB and the line n connected for it all to work.

All was fine until yesterday, then the sound stopped working though the track shows as playing on the sat nav screen.

BTW....has anyone found an easier method of scrolling? If you want a song, artist or album that is at the bottom of any list, it's impossible to get to it quickly unless you set up playlists in advance. I've not been able to find a way other than drive miles with your finger on the 'scroll' button, short of stopping and manually navigate to it on the iPod itself.

Got mine sorted now. The issue was with the iPod as I suspected but still not sure what it was. On the iPod menu in settings, I did a 'reset all settings' which ony resets the preferences and user setings on the iPod, it DOESN'T delete any of your synchonised music etc.

I then did a hard reset on the iPod (can't hurt!) and sync'ed with the PC again (just to test that the actual data port on the iPod was working)

When I put it back in the car all was working as normal again.

Still not clear what had happened but glad it wasn't permanent as I'm travelling at the weekend and wasn't happy about resorting to the CD multi-changer!
