Read another post on Honest Johns about a guys whos front door had travelled too far in high wind and dented itself on the edge of the wing.

I have had the same but on mine it was a rear door that creased itself around the edge of the front door

No ordinary vehicle will stand up to a good gust of wind catching the door.

If the wind and conditions are just right ALL car doors are capable of travelling well past the stop point and damaging the hinges and side of the vehicle.

Obviously the bigger the door the greater the leverage.

I think Ford would see this as damage caused through carelessness.

The door are designed to be held when open.

Mine have handles on both the inside and the outside.....this is not a design flaw !

It is for a reason.....

You open the door with the inside handle and get out and close the door.

You open the door with the outside handle and get in and close the door.

Mine also have windows and therefore there is no need to leave the door open.

I was of course referring to both the grammatical nonsense B) and the idea that the missus would be able to lift and hold a 30kg door after it had been torn off the hinges B)

3/10 BK...stay behind after class , Miss has some punishment lined up for you........

I don't think the OP is being unreasonable. After all, if the doors were intended to be held at all times as you say, why on earth do they put a stay-open notch on the straps?

How is someone expected to safely lift a baby/toddler/disabled person into a car seat whilst holding the door?

The straps are not going to save the doors in the event of a hurricane, but I would expect them to withstand a reasonable gust. Putting the stops on the hinges doesn't sound a good idea to me, putting it so near the pivot point would mean that the whole hinge assembly would have to be extremely robust to be as strong as a strap.

Good point.....maybe I was a bit extreme !
