My '97 2.0 petrol's reversing light does not stay on once you have let go of the gear stick. ( my wife almost found this out the hard way in a car park !!) In order to keep the light on i have to hold the lever over to one side. It appears the swithch os on top of the gearbox. Has anyone had this before or managed to get to the switch without removing almost everything under the bonnet?

The engine mount on that side is held in place by the same bolts! and when you undo the bolts the engine drops away making it hard to get the bolts back in due to them not being long enough to reach and pull it back up into place!

can you see the reversing switch and get to it without removeing anything?

if you remove the battery tray all you have to do is put an axle stand or jack under the gearbox to support it. This wil give you greater access did my 2.8 vr6 sharan at the weekend
