Guest Mikey Posted February 23, 2003 Report Posted February 23, 2003 Dear all, Yet again I'm on the information scrounge. All of a sudden the service indicator has appeared on my dash. The next service is not due for another 4000 miles and when it starts up it shows the message " OIL " I added some oil and the warning won't go away. Does this mean that I need to take it to a dealer ? I'd thought that perhaps it would reset itsef once I topped up the oil or that it may be the power steering fluid? Any info would be great. Cheers again ! Mike 1998 2.8 Ghia X (auto) Quote
oioisavaloy Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 Mike, When the OIL indicates on the dash it means that the vehicle is ready for an oil change. This is a calculated output in miles from the last time the oil was changed and more importantly oil reminder reset. FORD reset this oil indication once the oil has been changed, I am not to sure how or if it can be reset by the DIY mechanic, I am sure it can be done, It Quote
Guest Barrye Posted February 24, 2003 Report Posted February 24, 2003 To reset the Service indicater: 1 Press and hold odometer rest button with ignition in off position. 2 Turn ignition on 3 After 20 to 30 seconds the service reminder will be clear. Hope this helps Barry Quote
Guest mrtonywade Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 if you keep the button pushed in and turn the ignition off for 10 secounds, still holding in the button, and then back on, twice, this will reset the oil and service warnings, this also works on most vw,s Quote
Guest gritrash Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 My Galaxy is a month old with 1300 miles on it. The 'service in 2000 miles' warning flashed on the other day when starting up! After having reassured myself that it doesn't need a service until 10k i did the reset procedure as described by someone else on this thread. I guess it was not properly set up at the factory/dealer prior to delivery. Quote
iainkirk Posted April 2, 2004 Report Posted April 2, 2004 As per my reply on another thread: All Galaxies with Computer are set up for variable service intervals, despite the fact that neither VW, SEAT or Ford use this in the UK on Shalaxies. That's why the Ford manual tells you how to reset! Quote
CasaPaulo Posted April 3, 2004 Report Posted April 3, 2004 My W reg Seat SE does not have a computerised variable service 'brain' monitoring the quality of oil, mileage etc, it's got a bog std 10000 mile alert. The fact neither I nor the garage can remember to reset it when it does have a 10k service means it forever 'tells' me it needs a service or oil within the 10k mid service schedule period, which is when I last saw it. I reset it as per the easy instruction in the handbook, then 10k later, it lights up. What I can't recall is how to switch all the readings fully over to K instead of mph, that's not in the handbook, but it involved pressing 2 buttons for 20 secs or so. Did it once before. Apparently there are many other 'readouts' obtainable by pressing CC buttons in sequence. Quote
grifjl Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 I recently asked VW to put our Shalaxy (02 115 TDi) on Variable Servicing - uses the highest spec fully synthetic 506.01 oil. We had this on our older BMW car, means you don't have to service as much (in theory!) Quote
