Hello all

Got a ford galaxy 2.8, v6 mk1 that is running fine when cold but as soon as it warms up it just cuts out whether its stopping at roundabouts etc , Have searched here and it seems to narrow down to one of two sensors ( camshaft and speed sensor) now my haynes manual doesnt cover this type of engine and i was wondering of the position of these sensors, the cost of them and if they are simple enough to change , also what one is it more likely to be?

thanks for any help received

ps also car is a manual and i have difficulty getting into 3rd gear , if i try to get 3rd then i can feel a crunching type feeling through the gearstick , is this more than likely to be a clutch or something else?

There is no relevant cam sensor, only a CPS (speed sensor), this is located at the front of the engine next to the gearbox and is held in place by a single 5mm allen headed screw, it counts the teeth on the back of the flywheel so the ECU knows what position the crank is in. OBDI cars with dizzys had a cam sensor I believe. Yours is OBDII.

There is a camshaft sensor but as sepulchrave says it is not relevent, it is there mainly to tell the ECU where no1 cyl is. There are more informed people than me re this engine but could/does this not have an idle speed control valve that could be playing up, this was my 1st thought when I read your post.

I had a similar prob recently with my 99 2.8 V6, I took it too a mechanic friend who changed the plugs, leads nad a vavacuum hose. He also cleared 7 fault codes from the ecu, car runs a dream now

thanks for the reply lewie, il swap ths sensor first ( if i can find it lol ) and if it doesnt make any difference then ill try what you suggested, its a shame as the car is going really well when it runs right , but its annoying when it cuts out like it does.

was out earlier and had a look and found what looks like two sensors , these are on the right of the engine looking in to the engine bay

these are to the right and at front near where radiator is , would it be either of these ? and if it is then im guessing its the blue one ( only 2 wires ) how do they come out ?

thanks for help:)

Hi Tone,

I should imagine that these are temperature sensors on the back of the thermostat housing ( see Vanburst's good faq on this - http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.ph...amp;#entry81317 )

Better wait for Sepulchrave to give you directions but you must surely need to be looking nearer the flywheel housing, lower and further in!

Hi All

I'm having a very similar problem wih my 1997 galaxy. Its the 2.8 v6 auto 4x4 and the problem sounds exactly the same as the original poster. Runs fine when 1st starting up but once warm cuts out at roundabouts, junctions and traffic lights. Obviously very annoying as its an auto and will only start in either neutral or park!!!

Was this thread ever closed with a solution? Hoping it doesnt cost me too much to put right so any help will be greatly appreciated

Neil
