caiblue Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 hi all, thanks for taking the time to read this,my galaxy 2.3 2001 model started slightly misfiring under load yesterday, went in it this morning & it was getting steadily worse with the engine management light flashing, this afternoon- worse again & now engine management light permanently on, was thinking of starting with the plugs then ht leads but just wondering if anyone had any better knowledge of this than me?thanks again, gordon. sepulchrave Posted August 25, 2009 Report Posted August 25, 2009 HT leads and plugs will not put the ECU light on, a failing coil pack might if it's gone open circuit. Sorry. Quote

marcostig Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 It sounds like a coilpack mine went, just go to unipart/partco, they are only Quote
Neil23 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I've actually got the same issue came on here to try and find out how to replace coils. I had the same issue last year and it cost me Quote

sepulchrave Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 I think some of the guys above have the individual 'pencil pack' coils which are about Quote
turk90210 Posted August 26, 2009 Report Posted August 26, 2009 just a cautionary note for you if you replace a coil pack be it a pencil type or all in one unit it is advisory to change leads and plugs, most of the time you find a note from the manufacturer of the coils in the box stating this basically the consensus is that the coils fail due to having to work harder ie larger plug gaps or failing leads which created a higher resistance the coil has to overcome not only that you are almost certain to cure the fault if you replace all the ignition components the joys of having a diesel eh with all of their problems Quote
caiblue Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 (edited) i changed the coil pack today- Edited August 28, 2009 by caiblue Quote

sparky Paul Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 Will disconnecting the battery for 2 mins then reconnecting not work?Either that or 1. Someone you know with a VAG-Com who can reset it.2. The dreaded visit to your local Fraud dealer. Will VAG-COM reset the engine management light on a petrol model? I thought you needed a EOBD/OBDII Ford-type reader to rest this, and that VAG-COM only did the airbag system on the Ford engined models... or am I barking up the wrong tree here? Quote
sepulchrave Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 No, you're right, VAG-COM won't work on a 2.3 Ford lump. Disconnect the battery and ground the +ve terminal, then reconnect, that should reset the ECU. Quote

B) Sorry, my fault - my fingertips were in action on the computer before my brain  But as confirmed by sepulchrave, the disconnecting of the battery will reset the ecu to base settings. Let us know how you get on. Quote
caiblue Posted August 31, 2009 Author Report Posted August 31, 2009 engine management light went off on its own & stayed off, car running well again so hopefully all is well..thanks to all who helped.cheers, gordon. Quote
