Intermittent Starting Problem

Hi,

 

I have a 54 plate petrol galaxy 2.8 v6 ghia. We have had it nearly 4 years with no problems starting it til now! It starts but immediately dies before you can blip the accelerator, it can do this up to 8 times then will start and runs fine. It has had new plugs supplied by ford garage, and oil and filter change with flush out - which seemed to help in that it didnt do it for 2 days but now today problem started all over again!

Other thing I should mention is that it has had electrical problems it needed brakes and disks recently and when the garage replaced them the warning on the dash wouldnt erase so it went to the ford dealer who fitted new wiring loom - since then it once freaked out the abs handbrake and esp light came on and when I braked the petrol zeroed out and petrol warning light came on......this was checked out and they said there was an earthing problem, which earth couldnt be ascertained....was told to wait til it showed itself ie lights blew!!!

 

So I think thats everything!! Any ideas anyone, why will my trusty turbo charged bus not start????

hello jellibean and welcome to galaxy owners club well soon have you pointed in the right direction warning though its a bit like top gear on here so strap in and let the fun begin .

 

wiring loom for a dodgy brake sensor that sounds a bit extreme and they let you drive around with warning lights flahing away feck me unbelievable hope you didn't have kids in the car and it was only your life that's in danger you see i cant never understand why people take the word of people because they ware a brown smock or will look you in the eye with complete belief in there bullshit unfortunaly for you jellybean you are a test pilot for there ineptitude we may never know the outcome to this thread if continue to drive the accident waiting to happen car .its probably your guardian angel stopping that car starting thankfully. The muppet has very seriously pulled the wool over you eyes electrical problem's do not magically fix themselves for every electrical problem there are definitive soulotions i suggest you steer clear of the garage you have taken the car too and take it to your nearest vw garage as the car is more vw than ford or if your feeling brave take the car back to ware you had it cough fixed and demand a prompt repair loan car or full refund small claims court really don't like dodgy car dealers.

 

 

if you have been bleed dry by the said garage and said problem is over 12months if you wish to fix the problem yourself the starting and cutting out could be the the pats alarm system cutting out the car thinking its being stolen or it could be a crank sensor either one would normally show up in a vag diagnostic software which you can buy a lead and diagnotisc software from fleabay or see if your local to a member and they will do a quick scan for some beer vouchers extremely unlikely that a good oil and plug change would solve a consistent 3-4 sec start problem it more likely a dodgy relay
