Bought my 2006 Mkll 1.9 115TDi Auto, Gal 2 years ago with 24,000 on the clock

Now have 67,000 on the clock, and on a recent service, the garage noted that the front brake pads were about 70% worn

I didn't know the condition of the pads when i bought the car (i.e new or used), but i am surprised that they have done (as i am aware) 33,000 miles and still have 30% life in them. On my previous Mkll Gal (2002 115TDi manual) i was replacing front pads every 18 - 20,000 miles

Any comments as to what is expected from front pads, and oh, i see from a Kwik Fit advert on TV, that if they replace your brake pads, they will replace them again free of charge (when they wear out) as long as you own the car!

Anyone tried this service, and if so is it good value??

Cheers Dave.

Kwik fit is a bit of a con as they will tell you it needs new discs as well so you getthe pads free but have to pay for the discs.

this is an old trick to get the custom in, realistically they expect the average person to change their car every 3-4 years so if they give you that guarantee by the time the pads wear out it will be with the next or next next owner. Unless of course you are some sort of 20-30,000 miles per year driver or very heavy on the brakes. there are the exceptions to this however who will keep the cars longer but they are far and few between, I remember when ford dealers did this 25 YEARS AGO

Humm, either you drive a lot of miles in reverse or they have been changed before you. The front pads shouldn't outlast the rears in normal driving conditions!

On the Mk1 its quite common for the rears to wear faster as the parking brake auto adjust mechanism tends to be too aggressive and often sticks on a bit causing semi-permanent pad to disc contact.

I have owned my car from new.

Ahhh ok, surely that can't be good for your MPG?
