mumof4 Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Well guys, you all know the timing belt snapped on my car .. heres the result after working on it a few days. I was away flying weekend just gone from the thursday till sunday down in Norfolk and had an ace time. Anyway, heres my engine.. the car is not viable to repair im afraid, new head/valves/cam/timing belt/water pump etcc needed, total cost to repair would be nearly 800 quid.So im breaking her up. Im doing this to help fund a fund to get another car as no car means my kids dont go to school. i got a couple o weeks to raise around 500 quid. The cam shaft was in 6 pieces, the shims once i wiped the muck off them, were dented where they had hit the lobes, 3 out of 8 valves bent, head cracked. Any donations gratefully accepted. :( Quote
insider Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Not much of a donation but you might want to change your signature? :( "Toyota Estima Lucida 2.2 TD. Immaculate condition, J reg, 82k miles on the clock" Quote
Mirez Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Yeah that babys broken. What are you looking to get now? Back to the Galaxy fold? Quote
mumof4 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Report Posted August 18, 2009 It is in immaculate condition..well the body work is.LOL Ive been offered another lucida, that will come with a years warrenty, for 1200. The guy who has offered it to me is a mechanic who has been helping me when ive got stuck on taking parts off and has given advice. The engine is stripped down a lot more than what is shown in the pics. How can i turn down a used car, in a private sale, that he will give a warrenty on for a year? so i know that if anything major happens..he will repair it.. a deal too good to miss. Quote
seatkid Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 MO4 blows open the myth that Toyotas last for ever! :( She should get a job with Clarkson. Timing belts - don't you just love em....not :o Quote
Smilge Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Tried changing the MAF? ............... :( That's fubar'd and you're probably better off getting another Maz .... and with a guarantee. Quote
mumof4 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Report Posted August 18, 2009 Y'know, if the head wasnt cracked, i could of repaired this car... but it would be throwing money in the bin if i got a recon head for it. I have to be honest, it is kinda annoying that this has happened. Quote
big_kev Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 it is kinda annoying that this has happened. Maybe you should have treated it with a bit more love and kindness.... :( Quote
mumof4 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Report Posted August 18, 2009 Kev, its a bit like my love life... not that i have one.. but whatever i treat with love and kindness..ends up breaking anyway. :( Quote

sparky Paul Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Don't seem to have much luck with cars Maz... I hope the next one works out better! There's an Estima on fleabay with a blown head gasket if you fancy a challenge, not too far away and ends in less than 2 hours... and cheap! Should be a good buy for someone if the head is good, but it's always a risk. :( Quote

chromedome Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 (edited) I've got a 1999 (V) Mondeo Zetec 2000cc up for sale, probably too small for Mumof4. 81k, cam belt done, new exhaust and working air con. New MOT. It was my son's car but he can no longer afford to run it. Reasonable offers accepted. Edited August 18, 2009 by chromedome Quote

mumof4 Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 you have no idea how hard this has been.Ive had to contend with my daughter in and out of hospital, my own operations, the car going tits up, everyman and his dog assessing our home life to see what help i need as im so stressed out, and i still have not had a fag since the 25th of June. I have been so damn close many times to starting again. At one point i was sat with a pack of unopened fags just sat crying because i wanted one and i was battling with myself. I ended up throwing them away, still unopened. And right now i really could do with one, but it is an ongoing internal battle to not light a fag.I have no choice to stop.. it has to be done for my health. Quote
gregers Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 back in a mo,im going for a ciggie, :D Quote

mumof4 Posted August 20, 2009 Author Report Posted August 20, 2009 gregers you barsteward. LOL.Big J.. ive already gone down that route, 365 quid just for the head, then the added cost of everything else needed, like head gasket set.. 50 quid, belt..20 quid..tensioner.. 40 quid.. water pump.. head bolts.. then labour cost for garage to put it all on as timing is crucial... all amounts to nearly 800. not worth it.Big K.. thank you kind sir i do like the head i have now.. and as for being fat.. well.... ive jumped a dress size since quitting.. but now i got no car, im loseing it by walking everywhere.LOL.cyborg.. thank you for the virtual cuddle.. appreciated :rolleyes:Nope, didnt page down the link..just saw 2.4 and thought nope. i just cant justify spending nearly 800 quid on repairing her when she only cost me just over 1k.
