Hi, im new on here and have been looking through old posts but have yet to find the help i need so im hoping someone can help with my problem.

I have a 2002 1.9tdi 115ps galaxy ghia diesel. it has started having some electrical gremlins. nearside rear window sometimes doesnt work, when you lock the car from the inside it just unlocks straight away by itself, the windows will sometimes go up by themselves but the main problem is that the hazards start flashing on their own. its not even a rhythmical flash but a mind of its own flash. some days it wont happen, some days only a few times and other days constantly.

i have had an independant electrician out who checked wires, relays etc, replaced a few broken wires and traced the fault back to the multifunction control unit. then told me to take it to ford for a diagnostics test.

Sounds very much like either a defective control switch in one of the doors or the wiring but I would reiterate bj's comments - the wiring is the most likely suspect.

If the wiring in the door is broken/damaged then its highly possible one or more are shorting together - the hazzards, locks and windows all have links to the central locking system. Foe example if the external unlock wire is taken to ground you would get all 4 windows going down, the hazzards flashing and the doors unlocking themselves. If its tapped to ground you would get a flash of the hazzards and the doors unlocking and vice-versa for the lock wire.

One simple tests you could try would be to remove the central locking fuse and see if it stops, with that controller disabled global opening/closing should be stopped and you'll be able to see if its problem with that circuit rather then the MFCU. Also with the ignition on open and close each door in turn to see if its made better/worse - maybe try wriggling the rubber cable pass between the chassis and door in turn.

I wouldn't be in much of a rush to replace the MFCU just on Fords advice - they'll probably be telling you that based solely on a diagnostic machine which will likely default to that conclusion if more then one circuit exhibits the same fault.

thanks for that, i had it booked in for tomorrow to get the cjb changed at a slighter cheaper price of

hi, thanks everyone, you have saved me loads of money. i checked all the door looms and there were broken wires in all of them, the rear passenger side was the worst with only a few wires actually complete. because of the number of wires involved we got someone to do it for us but it has still made a massive saving compared to having to buy a new CJB like ford wanted us to. And so far everything is fine. in future i will be on here first with any problems before going to the garage. it appears we neednt have taken it in for a diagnostics either but you live and learn.

Many thanks again for solving the problem and saving me some of hubbys hard earned dosh.
